Chapter 198
Chapter 198
Westin and Claire had just rushed out of the imaging room when they bumped into Karim, who showed up after hearing
the commotion.
“Dr. Nichols, what’s going on?” Mr. Karim asked. He was momentarily stunned by the fierce look in their eyes and the way they were running down the hall.
Westin didn’t even slow down, his voice tense. “Mr. Karim, it’s been less than ten minutes, and Nina has already messed up
He shot a sharp look at the assistant who’d come to report, his voice harsh. “How is Silkcloud doing now? Is he hemorrhaging?”
The assistant nervously replied in a low voice, “No, Ms. Summer has already managed to remove the foreign object from Silkcloud’s blood vessel.”
“What?” Claire and Westin were both shocked. “How is that even possible? How could she do it so fast?”
The interpreter had already passed the good news on to Karim.
Karim was stunned for a moment, then his face went from grim to happy in a flash as he burst out in excitement. “Really? It’s only been ten minutes.”
While he was over the moon, Westin and Claire were left frozen in place.
The certainty and calm they’d worn just moments ago shattered, replaced by pure shock.
Nina walked out of the operating room with Silkcloud, who looked full of energy, and caught sight of Claire and Westin, who looked like they’d just seen a ghost.
She said, “Sorry to disappoint you, but even though I never bothered with a fancy degree, I don’t need ten days for something this simple. Ten minutes is all it takes.”
Nina glanced at the Summer Group experts, her smile growing even wider at Claire. “Just so you know, I’m flying solo these days. If any of your experts want to learn this trick, you have to pay first.”
Without sparing Claire and Westin another glance, Nina swiftly handed the lead rope over to Karim.
She said, “Mr. Karim, I’ve already taken out the needle that was messing with Silkcloud. From now on, he won’t freeze up mid-run anymore.
“You can take him for a few easy laps right now. Just keep it light and don’t push him too hard. He would be totally fine.”
“No need to test him,” Karim shouted, gripping the lead rope tightly. “I trust you. You’re the most incredible vet I’ve ever
seen.
His words made all the experts present instantly turn red with embarrassment.
Karim was so thrilled that he just yanked off four gemstone rings from his fingers.
He stuffed them all, plus his diamond-studded watch, right into Nina’s hands. “Ms. Summer, as soon as the Horse Expo wraps up, I’ll wire you 3 million dollars. Here, these are yours.”
Nina got 3 million dollars for surgery in less than ten minutes. She stared at the pile of dazzling things in her hands, her heart racing, fingers trembling with excitement.
This was some serious loot. All of it added up
to millions.

She spun around and shoved the whole pile into Quentin’s arms. “Hold onto this for me. I’ve got something important to discuss with Mr. Karim.”
Quentin raised an eyebrow, a playful smile in his eyes. “Am I your on-call assistant now?”
Still, he was all business with his hands. He caught everything smoothly, doing as he was told by Nina.
Nina was so pleased with herself. “Of course. I’m the star of the show today.”
She turned to Karim, her face suddenly serious as she spoke in a low voice. “Mr. Karim, I’ve discovered something about how that needle got inside Silkcloud. I need to talk to you alone.”
Mr. Karim caught on right away. He was just as desperate to know who had planted that dangerous needle in Silkcloud’s vein.
He turned to the business crowd and the vet teams, politely showing them out. “Silkcloud’s problem is all taken care of. Thanks for all your help.
“Go ahead and enjoy the rest of the Horse Expo. Sorry, I have to go.”
He thought, ‘I should have just gone with Mr. Hayes’s pick from the start. All that hassle is for nothing. These hacks couldn’t solve a thing and nearly put Silkcloud through hell.’
The vets looked at each other, faces full of reluctance and embarrassment.
They’d come in like a big deal, but now they were being dismissed, and hanging around any longer just felt pointless.
Some muttered quietly, some shook their heads and sighed, but with Karim’s clear order, they had no choice but to leave.
Westin froze, looking utterly upset.
He was the star professor at the Royal Veterinary College, yet he’d just been publicly humiliated by a rookie who hadn’t even bothered with grad school.
All his glory and pride shattered into pieces right then and there.
Claire’s face was as pale as a ghost. Her father was behind bars, her brother was caught up in the fallout, and now the last hope for saving the Summer Group had just slipped through her fingers.
She watched as Karim rolled out the red carpet for Nina, and she barely had the strength to stay on her feet.
Karim served coffee to Nina and Quentin in the lounge with respect.
Silkcloud, so big that he looked a little out of place in the lounge, stayed glued to Nina, nuzzling her shoulder with obvious affection.
Karim couldn’t help but wonder if maybe someday, Silkcloud would just sneak out to find Nina and refuse to go back home
with him.
Mr. Karim said seriously, “Ms. Summer, how did that needle get inside Silkcloud?”
Nina gently stroked Silkcloud’s neck,
“Silkcloud told me himself. It was a titanium micro-needle the vet
accidentally left behind when treating a cyst near his mane two months ago.”
Her

eyes were calm. “The real question is whether it was just carelessness or if someone did it on purpose. That’s why I need and Silkcloud to work with me so we can figure out the truth.”

Karim looked at her in disbelief. “How is Silkcloud supposed to help you?”

Then he suddenly remembered something. “Mr. Hayes mentioned you were an animal communicator when he introduced you. I thought it was just hype, but can you really talk to animals?”
