Chapter 235

Chapter 235

In the director’s office at Hayes Hospital, the phone on Quentin’s desk kept buzzing nonstop.

Quentin massaged his brow and set down his pen.

His computer screen was filled with medical papers in different languages, and next to Nina’s medical report on his desk were pages crammed with his handwritten notes.

He picked up his phone and saw a message from Liam. His eyes flickered, and his brows furrowed.

Just then, the driver he’d sent to pick up Nina called.

“Mr. Hayes, Ms. Summer doesn’t need a ride anymore,” the driver said. “What are your instructions?”

Quentin asked coldly, “Where is she headed?”

His voice dropped an octave, cold enough to chill anyone to the bone.

The driver immediately broke out in a sweat. “Ms. Summer didn’t give any details. Looks like someone else came for her.”

“After she left the hospital this morning, where did she go? Who did she meet? How did she seem?” Quentin fired off three questions in rapid succession.

The driver nervously recounted everything that happened after picking up Nina, his voice trembling.

“Ms. Summer went to the Summer Group first, then headed to the Jelasburg Police Department,” the driver said.

“She seemed really happy on the way to the police station,” he added.

The driver racked his brain, not daring to miss a single detail. “She said she couldn’t wait to see who she was about to meet and what was going to happen. She was really looking forward to it.”

“She even kept humming.”

When he thought of Colter, the officer Liam mentioned in his message, Quentin’s grip on the phone tightened.

“Very good,” Quentin said.

‘She’s really looking forward to meeting this blind date? That happy about it?’ Quentin thought, his jaw clenched.

Quentin ordered the driver, “Don’t come back. Just follow her and see where she goes.”

The driver quickly agreed.

After hanging up, Quentin tapped his phone screen and shot a message to his buddy Jason: [Race is off

Less than three seconds after he sent the message, his phone started buzzing like crazy.

As soon as he picked up, Jason’s aggrieved voice blasted through the speaker. “Quentin, you’re harder to book than a superstar these days.

“You’re either buried in the office or holed up at the zoo, and now you’re bailing on me too.”

Quentin flung Jason a screenshot of Liam’s message.

“What?” Jason sucked in a breath, practically shrieking. “Someone’s trying to steal your girlfriend? Quentin, hold up, I’m coming over right now.

“No way I’m missing this drama. Wait, I mean, this crisis, I have to be there,”

“Hi, Officer Emerson. I’m Nina,” Nina greeted.

She settled into the passenger seat, her posture a bit stiff, clearly treating this like a lesson with an instructor.

“No need to be so formal; just call me Colter,” he replied.

Colter, behind the wheel, looked sunny and approachable, his skin tanned and his grin showing off a row of perfect white teeth.

He was the SWAT team’s top combat instructor, tall, athletic, and radiating that unmistakable badass energy.

“Let me show you around my dad’s Stronghold Training Center first,” Colter said.

He started the car and drove off with Nina, heading straight for the Stronghold Training Center.

Traffic was pretty light around four in the afternoon, so Colter glanced in the rearview mirror.

There was a car shadowing them at just the right distance, slick enough that most folks would never catch on.

Most people wouldn’t even notice.

But Colter, with his officer’s instincts, picked up on it right away. He couldn’t help but feel a bit uneasy and suspicious.

‘Is someone shady after Professor Summer?’ Colter wondered.

But the car tailing them was a Maybach Pullman.

‘Who the hell uses a flashy luxury car like that to tail someone?’ Colter thought, shaking his head.

He remembered that his dad’s training center was out in the suburbs, with plenty of open space and a bunch of sports clubs nearby.

‘Maybe they’re just heading to the same place, Colter thought.

Half an hour later, they pulled up to the Stronghold Training Center.

As soon as they stepped into the training area, the air was thick with testosterone.

Everywhere you looked, ripped guys were working up a sweat; honestly, it was pure eye candy.

The place offered a ton of classes.

Watching the high-energy training all around her, Nina felt totally fired up.

‘If I could pull off moves like these, and team up with my animal buddies and Simon, I’d be a total boss on missions, she thought.

This place was massive.

Colter showed Nina around every corner, breaking down what each area was for. By the time they wrapped up the tour, it was already five o’clock.

He grabbed some protective gear for Nina and reassured her, “The trainers here handle all the regular classes. I swing by after work to get some training in myself.

“Today, I’ll walk you through the basics and get you warmed up.”

Colter leaned in seriously. “Don’t slack off on the basics when you’re back home, alright?”

Nina changed into her training clothes, and while Colter was helping her with the gear, his phone rang; it was his dad calling.

“Colter, someone interested in investing is coming by the base soon. Make sure you treat them like a VIP for me,” his dad said.

Colter frowned. “Dad, didn’t you always say you didn’t want any investors, that you wanted to keep things under your own control and stay independent?

“Why the sudden change of heart?”

On the other end, his dad gave an awkward little uh and lowered his voice. “Well, he is offering way too much

to say no.”

Then his tone turned all business. “Just make sure you roll out the red carpet for him, okay? He is kind of a big deal.”

Nina, catching the conversation, offered considerately, “Officer Emerson, if you’ve got real business to take care of today, I can always come back another time.”

“No rush,” Colter replied, hanging up and giving her a big, easy grin. “We’ll see what happens when the investor gets here. The front desk can take care of them if needed.”

He added, earnestly, “I promised Simon I’d get you started right; no way I’m breaking that promise.”

After checking out the whole base, Nina was buzzing with energy, totally lost in her fantasy of one day taking down a bull with a single punch. She was pumped and raring to go.

“Let’s get started,” she blurted out, ready for anything.

Meanwhile, that mysterious investor, the one throwing around way too much cash, was making his way over.

Colter was just about to start Nina off with the most basic moves.

He’d barely shown her two techniques when footsteps sounded at the entrance to the training area.

Right after, the front desk guy’s voice came in, super enthusiastic, almost a total kiss-up.

“Mr. Hayes, our Stronghold Training Center is one of the biggest and best in Jelasburg,” the front desk guy. gushed.

“The owner’s a retired cop, and most of our trainers are SWAT officers or military police veterans. The training here is as pro as it gets,” he added.

When Nina heard it, she instinctively turned around.

Stunned, Nina saw Quentin standing right at the entrance of the training area. She blinked in disbelief.

The first thing that caught her eye was Quentin’s classic V-shaped build.

He was wearing a perfectly fitted black turtleneck, highlighting his broad shoulders, solid chest, and lean waist, every powerful line of his frame on display.

He had this steady, commanding kind of charm, intense and impossible to ignore.

‘Wasn’t he rocking a suit this morning? Why’d he change outfits?’ Nina wondered, thrown off.

Quentin’s deep gaze swept past everyone else and landed right on her.

Nina’s heart skipped a beat for no reason, and she instinctively looked away.

‘Wait, why am I even nervous?’ she thought, confused.
