Chapter 247
Nina thought to herself, ‘So now people aren’t just coming to me to crack cases. They want me to deal with hauntings, too?’
Her eyes paused on the words, and for some reason, a chill crept up her back.
She used to be a hardcore realist.
But ever since she could understand what animals were saying, her whole worldview had been completely
shaken.
‘No way could ghosts actually be real?’ Nina thought to herself.
Just as she was hesitating, the other person sent three more messages in quick succession, each one making Nina’s heart beat a little faster.
[My grandmother’s lake house is right by the water, and the environment is perfect for wildlife. There should be plenty of animals living around.]
[If you’re willing to come, I’ll arrange for someone to pick you up and drop you off. All travel expenses will be fully reimbursed, and the consulting fee is 600 dollars per hour.]
[I’ve never believed in ghosts. There must be someone behind all this. If you can figure out the truth, our company will supply you with Krill Algae at a cost price for the long term.]
Fiona Lane was the one texting her.
She was the major partner Nina was currently negotiating with.
This boss lady basically had a monopoly on the country’s supply of Krill Algae.
Nina had previously prepared a backup plan for Summer Group Krill Algae Dog Food. When it came to results, it matched Celestial Dog Food pound for pound.
Now that Summer Group was putting strict limits on Celestial Dog Food, buyers were up in arms, desperate to get their hands on it.
If she could roll out a substitute that worked just as well, cost less, and was available without restrictions, it would be great.
She could seamlessly scoop up all the demand Summer Group couldn’t handle, gradually build a solid reputation, and eventually step over Celestial Dog Food to dominate the market, swallowing up every bit of its share.
That would leave Summer Group’s pricey, heavily invested product to rot in their hands.
And her Krill Algae Dog Food could really make a name for itself and keep her product line solid.
It could become a steady, money-making cash cow for her in the long run.

Chapter 247
If she could get to the bottom of the “haunting” at Fiona’s grandma’s place, she could lock in a steady supply of Krill Algae at rock-bottom cost.
That would mean even higher profits and a stronger edge in the market.
And the best part? This algae works for cat food, too.
Now that she’d thought it through, Nina didn’t hesitate for a second.
This was an opportunity she absolutely couldn’t pass up,
Over the weekend, after digging into all the details about Fiona’s grandma’s place, Nina handpicked her two animal detectives, Pearlie the ferret and Chunky, to tag along for the adventure.
But there was no way she was going ghost-busting solo. Without a second thought, she roped in Simon, who was supposed to be enjoying his vacation.
If there really was something creepy lurking around, Simon’s righteous energy would definitely be enough to keep any bad vibes at bay.
Simon was still packing, totally baffled, when Nina yanked him off to the airport. “Come on, Simon, we’re off to bust some ghosts,”
Fiona’s company was all the way in Cloudville, which meant they’d need to catch a flight.
Fiona had thoughtfully booked first-class tickets for both of them.
Normally, getting exotic pets like Pearlie and Chunky approved for air travel would be almost impossible.
But now that these two were official animal detectives, their status was on a whole other level.
With their government certification and all the health certificates from the official vet team, all the paperwork sailed through without a hitch.
‘Guess that’s the perk of having that official government backing,’ she wondered.
As soon as their plane landed, their chauffeured ride was ready and waiting for them.
Nina and Simon were whisked straight to Fiona’s grandma’s lakeside villa without a hitch.
The old lake house had gray walls covered in thick, creeping vines.
It stood quietly by the water, marked by the passage of time but still radiating a classic, old-fashioned grace.
The house sat all by itself, surrounded by empty space, and as dusk settled in, it felt a little desolate.
Nina and Simon both wore hats and masks, one dressed in black, the other in white sportswear, keeping it low-key but still looking pretty cool.
“Nina, I’m so glad you’re finally here,” Fiona greeted.

Chapter 247
Fiona was rocking a sleek gray wool coat, her wavy hair making her look both capable and graceful.
She smiled as she walked over, her gaze sweeping over the two of them.
Nina walked up holding Pearlie, who was still half-asleep, while Chunky was out cold in his travel crate.
She turned to the side and said, “This is Simon. He’s here as my backup.”
Fiona nodded at Simon, her eyes twinkling with recognition. “I’ve heard all about you two, the famous twin stars from the precinct. Been wanting to meet you guys for ages.”
She joked, “Just hope we don’t end up digging up any real trouble in my grandma’s place.”
Fiona pointed toward the lake house not far away, a hint of helplessness in her voice. “But if you two can unmask those con artists, that’d make things a whole lot easier for us.
“We can just hand them over to the cops in one go.”
“Con artists?” Nina cocked her head, curious.
“You bet,” Fiona sighed. “My grandma’s hired all sorts of self-proclaimed experts.
“Every single one of them claims this house is haunted, talking it up like it’s some supernatural hotspot.”
As she led Nina and Simon toward the lake house, she shook her head. “They’ve been doing all kinds of rituals, plastering talismans everywhere, and selling these beads.
“My grandma’s a true believer. She’s dropped over a million on this stuff, and no matter how much I try to talk her out of it, she just won’t listen. It’s like she’s under some kind of spell.”
As they talked, the three of them walked through the front door of the lake house.
As soon as they stepped inside, Nina and Simon both froze in their tracks.
The scene before them looked like a full-blown supernatural convention.
In the living room, a priest with a long robe and flowing beard sat with his eyes closed, fingers weaving through ritual hand signs.
Next to him, a man in a traditional outfit and dark sunglasses was muttering to himself over a compass.
