Chapter 168
Maddox
I wasn’t looking forward to the Young Power List Awards as much as I was looking forward to Harper’s birthday. There was only one more week to go. While I had so many surprises for her, it was the biggest surprise that made me so impatient. I wish her birthday could arrive much sooner.
My name had been trending online, not just because of how many people hoped that I would scoop all the awards, but also because of how much I was now worth thanks to my father.
There were those who questioned why Tiffany hadn’t been considered. The only one who could give them the perfect response to that was my father, but he was so far away now and had decided to only make a few phone calls and block out everything else that had to do with the internet.
Since he wasn’t around, I was the one who had to speak to Tiffany. She’d called me earlier and was about to go on a long rant, but I’d cut her off as I had work to do. I told her I’d meet her afterwards. I owed her nothing more than showing up to her residence and making myself clear over the assets. I already had an idea how it would go down, but I still wished to show up anyway. It wasn’t like I was going to allow her to order me around.
The time to meet her had finally arrived and I was actually looking forward to it. Not only because I couldn’t wait to see the look on her face, but also because I hoped to run into Grayson, even if the chances were very slim.
Now that their relationship was very different, I couldn’t imagine them spending time together when no one else was around. It was possible that he wasn’t even home at all and had decided to head to one of his apartments. I hope that wasn’t the case because I needed to have a word with him, just a word.
I was approaching their street when I received a call from Harper.
I glanced down at the screen with a smirk, still not over her reaction when she explained herself and I just kissed her on the forehead.
She must’ve wanted to know if I had finally left work. When we’d met earlier, I’d promised that I’d treat her to a special dinner for being honest with me.
With my eyes on the road, I picked up the call.
“Miss me?” I said to her.
“Nope. Not at all,” she said from the other end of the line. “Okay, maybe a little.” She chuckled sweetly. “Remember what I said, you have to tell me as soon as you leave the office. That way, I can-”
“I already left and I’m now on my way to your place.”
She gasped so loudly that I had to hold in my laugh.
“But I haven’t even freshened up yet!”
“I’m just kidding.” I chuckled.
She sighed with relief, but didn’t sound too amused when she said, “I hate you for this.”
I shrugged like she could see me. “And I like it. For now, just relax. I just need to make a quick stop somewhere else. As soon
as I start driving towards your place, I’ll definitely give you a heads up. That should be at 7:30.”
“So… red or black?” Her tone was suddenly flirtatious.
I didn’t know if she was talking about lipstick, heels, a dress or some sexy lingerie, but that didn’t matter much as it still made me bite my lower lip.
“Red,” I said, like I could already imagine her like that.
“Good choice.” She giggled, then changed the tone of her voice to something more serious. “So, about meeting Dean
tomorrow…”
“Yeah?”
She was only a few words in when my car stopped right at the gate and as soon as it opened, a pair of headlights hit my eyes first and then I was soon able to make out that it was Grayson’s car on its way out.
I hated what I was about to do to Harper because I still wanted to listen to everything she had to say, but I was so mad when 1 saw him that I had to end the call.
“Babe, can I call you back?” I said to her.
“Sure, I’m guessing you’ve arrived.”
“Yeah,” I said, my eyes fixed on Grayson’s car as I quickly ended the call and unfastened my seatbelt
I knew that the only way out was for him to drive past me, but I had no plans of moving from that spot.
The last thing I wanted was for him to reverse. I needed to talk to him right there. I had never been so glad to run into him.
Quickly stepping out of my car and slamming the door, I could already feel my heart racing. I had to keep myself under control.
Even as I approached him, he still didn’t let go of the steering wheel. I wasn’t about to let him drive off if that was what was on his mind.
He breathed hard as he held onto my wrists like he wanted to push me off, but he was no match for me as I pressed down on him. That still didn’t stop him from uttering his next words.
