After I followed a corridor that opened into a wide balcony overlooking the gardens, I paused, taking in the view while placing my forearms on the railing. I was already stealing ideas. thought I could definitely use a few of those concepts for one of my estates. I just couldn’t say it in front of Dean, but I was impressed.

I didn’t just want to have the mental picture of that place in my head, so I took out my phone and began capturing everything I could see, making sure that Dean wasn’t anywhere close.

I was a few pictures in when my phone began to ring and my lips instantly curved into a smile because it was my girl.

Miss me?I said to her with a smirk.

Of course, she said with a soft chuckle. That’s exactly why I’m calling you. Where are you?

This should be the West Wing. There’s a balcony overlooking the lower gardens. There’s also a ridiculous glass vase here.

I heard Dean scoff in the background and I realized the call was on speaker. I was glad I didn’t rush to compliment the vase.

Dean and I are done talking, she said. We’re coming where you are.

I instantly rolled my eyes. I was about to comment on that when I froze. There was another laughter in the background and I was certain it wasn’t Harper. Not only was it a female’s voice, it also sounded familiar in a way I didn’t like. I told myself it wasn’t possible.

Harper didn’t even say anything more as she and Dean were already on their way, so she ended the call.

I didn’t even get back to taking pictures and videos of the view in front of me. Even as I waited for them, I still couldn’t stop thinking about it. It took them a while to get to me and that only made me more curious as to who that was. Dean did mention that he was staying with someone. Was that who I heard? Though I had been dismissive, could it be?

It was still on my mind when I sensed them approaching from the left, so I looked over. Harper was engaged in conversation with him as he walked beside her, fully paying attention to her.

I didn’t think much of it at first as I only took it that they had finally come to meet me, but everything changed when I spotted a third figure just behind them. It was someone from my pastTrina.

She smiled with satisfaction when she saw me, but there was anger too. Of course there was. I expected nothing less.

I looked away quickly when Harper approached me and naturally held my hand, our fingers intertwining. She was unaware of the shift inside me.

Then, I slid my other hand down to her waist, holding it firmly and deliberately. I made sure that Trina saw it while she stood with Dean.

Babe,Harper said brightly, turning slightly towards me. This is Trina. Dean said she’s my cousin.

The word cousin landed like a hard punch and I fought hard not to show my genuine reaction.

Trina let out a laugh that was a little too sharp. Come on,” she said while glancing at Harper. You could’ve just said I’m your cousin. Not that Dean said it.

Right!Harper forced a chuckle.

Trina just wouldn’t stop talking, making small jokes and acting like we were strangers meeting for the first time. Of course, I was acting the same way. It was like my hands had never held her before.

When my eyes met Dean’s while she was still talking, something clicked. He knew about my past with her. That explained the looks he had been giving me.

She was still talking when he interrupted her.

I need to show Harper something and it’s private.

Harper looked up at me, silently asking and I nodded for her to go. I needed to talk to Trina anyway.

Before I let her go, I kissed her right on the lips and when I pulled back, I glanced over at Trina and caught her poking her cheek playfully. But her expression was obvious. She hated it.

Still unaware of what was going on, Harper walked away with Dean while they engaged in small talk and just like that, I was alone with Trina. The past was finally catching up with me.

It was only when she was absolutely certain that they were out of sight that she took a few steps forward to shorten the distance between us.

There was fire in her eyes and the same hunger from before, the one she had the last time I’d met her and it made me reckless.

I finally get to have you in front of me after you broke my heart that night,” she said, her voice low and sultry, but with a hint of bitterness.

I took a few steps back, keeping my guard up. How could I forget the way you got down on your knees and begged me to make you my girlfriend, even after I made things clear before we did anything?

That was a painful reminder for her as I saw a flash of it across her face, but she recovered quickly. She stepped forward again, poking out her hip, just enough to make me aware of her curves.

You’re every girl’s dream. She smirked while biting her bottom lip. How could I not want you all to myself?

I shook my head dismissively, not even wanting to comment on that. I didn’t even know you’d be here. I didn’t know you were a Beauregard. That’s how little I was interested in anything more than a night.

Her smirk faded and was replaced with real frustration that made her nostrils flare. But once again, she recovered quickly, smirking again with crossed arms.

You could’ve told Harper about me. Maybe you don’t want to because you still want to have some fun. I feel bad for her, you know. She’s just going to get her heart broken.

I chuckled confidently. That’s not happening with this one.”

Even after I told her that, her chest began to rise and fall faster. Her breath became uneven as her eyes dropped down to my lips, up to my shoulders and just lingering everywhere they shouldn’t. There was still desire behind that bitterness.

You’re even more gorgeous now. How’s that possible? She bit her lip while lightly touching her collarbone.

I slightly smirked, letting her think that I was about to flirt. Do you really want to know?

Her lips parted as she leaned forward, ready to melt at my next words. She must have thought she could still make me want

her.

Yes, tell me,she said.

My girlfriend and I work out a lot together,I said casually, as if that was the end of the conversation.

She huffed as she shook her head. I thought she was going to give up, but she wanted me so badly that she kept going.
