Chapter 385
After hearing Josie’s words, Joanna finally backed off.
The rest of the meal felt tense and a little strange.

After dinner, Josie turned to Xylia and said, “Xylia, why don’t you take a stroll around the estate with Mr. Garcia later? Tomorrow, I’ll go with you to see Dr. Clark.”
Xylia gave a small nod, quietly agreeing.
Josie grabbed Joanna’s hand and led her away.
Xylia looked over at Joshua, and he just shrugged, like he had no idea either. ‘Guess I’m not the only one confused here,’ Xylia thought to herself.
Xylia knew she really needed to have a talk with Josie, but right now, she just couldn’t bring herself to deal with it.
She just wasn’t in the mood for anything else at the moment.
All she wanted was for Joshua’s check–up tomorrow to go smoothly, and for his surgery to turn out well.

Xylia woke up early the next morning.
She glanced at Joshua, still fast asleep, and quietly slipped out of bed.
The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon outside.
She went to the bathroom to freshen up before coming back to wake Joshua.
Joshua, Joshua, time to get up,” she called softly.
Joshua blinked awake, still drowsy.
Without thinking, he pulled Xylia into his arms, snuggled her back under the covers, and whispered in her ear.
Just a little more sleep, he mumbled,
Xylia playfully pinched Joshua’s earlobe, grinning.
“Come on, sleepyhead! Today’s your check–up. The sooner you get your bloodwork done, the sooner you can cat, Xylia said nudging him.
Joshua mumbled, still half–asleep, I’m not hungry”
Xylia let out a soft laugh.
“Yeah, right. Like he’s not hungry she thought to herself.
Joshua lingered in bed for a while longer, clearly reluctant to get up, before finally rolling out of bed.
Xylia had never noticed this lazy side of Joshua before.

Honestly, she was usually the one who liked to sleep in.
After getting ready, they headed downstairs to find Josie already out front with the car ready to go.

She’d pulled up right to the main entrance, making it easy for Xylia and Joshua to just hop in without trekking all the way to the garage.
Josie handed them both breakfast.
“Mr. Garcia’s is packed in an insulated box, so it’ll still be nice and warm after your check–up,” she said.
Xylia flashed Josie a grateful smile.
“Thanks,” she said.
Josie just brushed it off. “Come on, I told you, no need for that.”
Once they were in the car, Xylia figured she’d just wait and eat with Joshua later.
But Joshua popped open her breakfast and, not taking no for an answer, told her to eat it now.
He was just worried she’d get hungry.
So Xylia gave in and started eating, not wanting to make a fuss.
As Josie drove, she caught a glimpse of them in the rearview mirror, and her lips curled into a subtle smile.
Back when Joshua was trying to win Xylia over, Josie had always felt a bit envious of their relationship.
Joshua treated Xylia so well–he was always at her beck and call when others were around, and when no one was watching, he looked after her with a quiet, thoughtful care.
When Josie first found out that Joshua had lost his memory and was now hanging around with Xylia’s old rival, she was absolutely livid.
She had her own personal agenda–she really wanted Xylia to get back to her old job as a designer–and that was a big reason why she started plotting with Dustin.
So she and Dustin cooked up this scheme together.
But if she’d known that even after losing his memory, Joshua would still show his love for Xylia in everything he did, she never would’ve pulled such a dumb move and hurt Xylia at all.
She never would’ve pulled such a dumb move and hurt Xylia at all.
As that thought hit her, Josie’s smile froze on her face.
She’d managed to lose her only real friend, and it was all her own fault
After finishing the whole sandwich, Joshua thoughtfully handed her a milk pouch
Xylia really couldn’t eat another bite.
The sandwich Josie gave her was massive–she was already feeling stuffed after just that
But Joshua kept holding out the milk, looking like he wouldn’t give up until she drank it

So Xylia took it and started sipping, not wanting to make him worry.
By the time she finished the milk, the car came to a smooth stop at the hospital entrance.
Josie led them inside.
Suddenly, Xylia asked, “Where’s Dustin?”

Josie said Clark was friends with Dustin, so Xylia wondered, ‘If Dustin’s not here, will Clark be harder to talk to?‘
Josie could tell what Xylia was worried about, so she gave her a reassuring smile.
‘Don’t worry, we’ve already talked to Dr. Clark. He’ll make sure Mr. Garcia gets a proper evaluation for the surgery,” Josie said.
Hearing that, Xylia finally felt a weight lift off her shoulders.
They made their way to Clark’s office.
Clark looked up from his work, about to say something, but when his eyes landed on Joshua, he was visibly stunned.
You…” Clark said, pointing at Joshua.
He pointed at Joshua as he stood up and walked right over to him.
His blue eyes were full of recognition and something else–like he was remembering something important.
‘It’s you! Do you remember me? Ten years ago, you pulled me out of trouble in an alley–saved me from a bunch of thugs, Clark said, his voice trembling with surprise and recognition.
‘No,” Joshua replied, his tone firm and final.
Joshua didn’t hesitate.
He even frowned, taking a step back with a hint of annoyance.
Why is this guy staring at me with such clingy eyes?‘ Joshua thought, feeling uneasy.
Xylia was a little thrown off by the situation, but she quickly explained, “Sorry, Dr. Clark. My husband lost his memory–he doesn’t remember anything from before.”
Clark’s expression shifted as he realized what she meant.
“Oh, right, right, it’s the whole chip issue. Dustin already filled me in,” he said.
Clark hurried back to his desk, flashing Joshua a big grin. “Hey, lifesaver, come on over and grab a seat. I’ll set you up with some tests, and once you’re done, I’ll give you a full rundown of the risks”
Joshua couldn’t help but squirm–Clark’s over–the–top enthusiasm was way too much for hun.
Neither Xylia nor Josie ever expected Joshua and Dr. Clark to be connected like this
Actually, this was a good thing.
With this kind of bond, Dr. Clark would definitely take extra care with Joshua’s surgery
