The Invisible Girl's Revenge (Harper) novel Chapter 212

it had been about ten minutes since I had left my father’s estate, but my mind was nowhere near the drive. It was still back here in the living room and I could still hear the sound of Tiffany breaking down.

Wanting to give them space, I had decided to leave because that was the right thing to do, but I couldn’t stop thinking about what was going to happen next. What was she even going to do after something like that?

didn’t have the answers to that question, so I tried to focus on the road, on Harper, or anything else, but I still found myself hinking about it. It was so persistent that it annoyed me.

thought that maybe if I did something about it, it wouldn’t bother me so much, so I pulled over, took out my phone and dialed Grayson’s number. He didn’t pick up the first few times and that just pissed me off. Still, I kept calling until he finally icked up.

What?he snapped the moment he picked up. Why the hell are you calling me like that?

assumed he was still mad about what had happened with Harper and Anna. That was why I didn’t even react to the tone.

You should’ve been there with Tiffany,I said calmly.

He laughed dismissively. What happened? Anyway, I couldn’t make it because something came up.

smirked slightly. In your jaw?

I didn’t get an immediate response, but when it came in, it was a bitter laugh. So you know about that. Of course you do.ie exhaled sharply. Is that why you called?he asked, the irritation in his voice growing more and more.

No. Tiffany needed you.”

He laughed again, but this time, it was cold. She never needs me for anything these days. That’s a thing of the past. Sure, I was supposed to go with her, but so what if I didn’t? She’s too-

She’s not my sister.”

He went silent for a few seconds, then said, Wait, what? Say that again.”

She’s not my sister,I repeated. Dad told us when we went to the estate.

That’s that’swell, fuck. How did he even find that out? What hap-

That’s not my job to explain,I bluntly cut him off.

He scoffed. You don’t get to tell me something like that and expect me-

If you want the details, talk to Tiffany.

I immediately ended the call after that, tossing the phone onto the passenger seat and focusing back on the road. My mind was a little more at peace now that I had told Grayson, but whatever was to come next wasn’t my responsibility.

Chapter 212

As Anna smoothed a few strands of my hair, I took one last long look at myself in the mirror.

She finally stepped back, her eyes scanning me like she was critiquing a painting.

Then, she smiled. You look gorgeous!

I couldn’t help but grin as I turned slowly to catch my side profile in the mirror, twirling slightly so I could see the full outfit. The short red dress clung to my figure like skin and it was something Maddox had never seen me wear before. I could already imagine his reaction and it made my heart beat a little faster.

I was still lost in the reaction I was most likely going to see when I heard the sound of an engine outside. He had finally arrived.

Ready?Anna excitedly rubbed her hands together.

I nodded, trying to keep my anticipation under control.

We headed downstairs together and when we were halfway to the living room, I glanced at her and said, Are you sure you don’t mind being here alone tonight?

She shook her head with a soft smile. I’ll be fine. Just have fun and don’t get pregnant.

I chuckled.

When we finally got to the living room, she didn’t take another step further. She just threw her arms around me for a quick. supportive hug before letting me go.

I waved at her once more before stepping out onto the porch, unable to stop smiling at how she looked at me with so much

The headlights hit me just right immediately and that was already working to my advantage because I wanted Maddox to fully take in the view of my dress.

He was leaning against the car with his hands in his pocket and for a moment, I thought he was at a loss for words. I started walking towards him slowly, letting the light highlight the curves of my body in that red dress. But as I got closer, I noticed hat he wasn’t even looking at me.

it was only when I gently rubbed his shoulder that he finally paid attention.

His

shifted to my face as he finally looked at me and I saw a smile, but it wasn’t the one I expected.

You look amazing,he said casually.

I thought I could just forget about it, but I expected more, so I searched his face because I began to worry.

Is everything okay?I asked.

Yeah. Everything’s fine.He nodded, proceeding to open the car door for me.

I didn’t move right away because I didn’t believe him and he used that moment to give me a quick kiss on the lips and despite the mood he was in, my heart fluttered.

I stepped into the car with a small smile on my lips, still watching him as he went around to the other side so he could also get in. It became clearer that something was wrong and I wondered what it was

Chapter 212

By the time we got to his place, that feeling in my chest hadn’t gone away. If anything, it was worse.

He stepped out first and walked around to open my door like he always did and I took his hand as I stepped out, still watching him closely.

I waited for something, anything to give me the reaction I knew that I deserved that night, but it never came. He just led me inside.

We hadn’t said a word to each other ever since we had stepped out of the car and it began to bother me.

I slowed down before we even moved past the foyer, making him look back at me because we were still holding hands and he had felt my hesitation.

What’s up?he asked, raising his eyebrows with curiosity.

I sighed. You were in such a good mood when you left for your dad’s estate. What happened?

He immediately pressed a soft kiss on my shoulder, then said, I’ll explain later.

He pulled back immediately and gave me a small smile. This one felt a little more real. I know it’s already 10 PM but I’m just glad that we’re having dinner together.”

Something might’ve been up with him, but whatever he had just said to me, I believed every word and it made me smile. I decided to be patient enough until he would tell me what had happened at his father’s estate.

When he led me to the dining table, I gasped with pleasant surprise because the table had already been set. There were candles, wine glasses, roses and plates perfectly arranged.

When did you do all this?I asked.

I didn’t,he said as he pulled out a chair for me. I asked someone here to do it. I just told them to wait on lighting up the candles.”

But why?I looked back at him as I sat down.

He didn’t respond right away as he stood behind me, his hands resting on the back of my chair and feeling him right there made my heart beat faster.

I expected him to answer that question right away, instead, he got a little serious first

There’s a problem and it’s pretty bad,” he said.

I was so worried that I gripped the edge of the table. What is it?
