The Invisible Girl's Revenge (Harper) novel Chapter 211

Maddox

As soon as the front door opened, Margot’s voice could be heard from the foyer.

Who the hell made my daughter cry?she yelled.

I closed my eyes out of annoyance for a second before glancing at my father.

He didn’t even bother to comment on it, just rolling his eyes like he was already exhausted, but she had only just arrived.

Footsteps were aggressive as they got louder until they finally appeared. Margot had one arm wrapped tightly around Tiffany as if she was trying to shield her from something.

Tiffany’s face was still smeared in her tears, but she was quieter now.

As soon as they took their seats across from me, Margot exploded.

What’s wrong with the two of you?she snapped, looking between me and my father. She’s pregnant! Do you have any idea what stress like this can do to her? Now, I demand an explanation. What did you say to her to make her look like this?

She kept the accusations coming, like she had already decided that we were guilty.

But before she could continue, Tiffany suddenly pulled away from her and that alone shut Margot up. She froze as she clearly wasn’t expecting that. Her expression instantly shifted, like she was switching roles.

Sweetheart,she said gently. What’s wrong?

I barely blinked because I didn’t want to miss it. Something had changed about Tiffany. She didn’t even answer. She just looked at her mother with a subtle glare. It was cold and Margot noticed it too.

Why are you looking at me like that?she asked, furrowing her eyebrows.

Tiffany didn’t respond to her. Instead, she looked at my father and that was when he spoke.

I asked her to call you here,he said, his voice cutting through the tension. I wanted her to hear the truth from you.”

Margot scoffed immediately while rolling her eyes.

And what truth is that?she asked, her tone dripping with arrogance.

That I’m not Tiffany’s father.

Her expression instantly changed as her eyes slightly widened.

For the first time since she had walked in, she had nothing to say.

He watched her closely before saying it again. I’m not Tiffany’s father.”

She still didn’t respond, but I could see the panic creeping in. Her eyes then darted around, like she was trying to find something to hold on to.

Then, she finally let out a sharp and forced laugh.

Don’t be ridiculous, she said as she dismissively waved her hand. This is insane. Her eyes were still wide. Is this your way of justifying why you didn’t transfer anything to her?Her tone was now filled with mockery. Because if it is, this is low, even for you.”

My father didn’t even bother to argue or raise his voice. Instead, he lifted the pillow beside him and pulled out a document. The sound of paper shifting filled the silence.

When he extended his hand toward her so he could give her the document, she snatched it aggressively, like she was offended by the gesture.

She began reading it right away and at first, her face was blank, but then, it slowly changed. She parted her lips as she drew her eyebrows together and just like that, the truth hit her. She slowly covered her mouth and there it was, the exposure.

My father’s voice was quiet, but firm when he said, Who is Tiffany’s father?

She didn’t answer, her eyes glued to the document before she turned to Tiffany.

Tiffany, she said, her voice now trembling. II-

Tiffany burst into tears, her voice cracking as she spoke. So it’s true. She shook her head with her hands on the sides of her head, like she was going to pull her hair out. My entire life has been a lie.

Margot leaned towards her quickly. No,she said with desperation. That’s not true. Your life was never a lie. You had everything and lived a life you deserved. You actually had the best of everything.”

She reached out her hand so she could touch Tiffany, but she moved back immediately as she yelled, Don’t touch me!

Even though Margot flinched, she still tried to recover quickly.

Sweetheart, there’s no need to get so angry.

Tiffany let out a broken laugh. Are you serious? You lied to me!

Margot’s expression hardened and just like that, she switched again. Her gaze shifted and landed on me. She hadn’t yet said a word but her gaze was already sharp and accusing.

This is exactly what you wanted, isn’t it? You’re enjoying every second of this!

I raised my eyebrows. Don’t drag me into your mess,I said bluntly. I had nothing to do with it.

Her eyes narrowed, but she didn’t say anything in response.

Instead, she turned to face my father as she threw the document in his face. You’re so heartless! Her voice now trembled with anger. She’s pregnant! How dare y-

Who is Tiffany’s father?he cut her off as he picked the document off the floor and placed it on the seat beside him.

She froze for a few seconds, then straightened up as her expression turned defensive.

It’s none of your business who Tiffany’s father is.She lifted her chin like she could still control the room.

No!Tiffany’s voice cut through the tension. You’re going to answer that question right now.Her hands were now shaking. fists clenched at her sides.

Margot instantly softened again, reaching for her like she was trying to pull her back into safety.

Hey,she said, lowering her voice, we can talk about this in private.” She wrapped her hand around Tiffany’s wrist. Come with me.”

Tiffany instantly pulled her hand away. Don’t touch me! I’m not going anywhere with you!Her voice was filled with disgust.

Margot froze and for a second, it looked like she was going to push again, but she didn’t.

Instead, she exhaled and spoke to her gently. Fine, when you’re ready to listen, you know where to find me.Her gaze shifted back to my father and that venom returned. You’re an asshole for breaking her heart like this!

I instantly glanced at him, wondering what he was going to say, but he didn’t react. He just calmly sat there and that just made her angrier because she didn’t get anything out of him.

With a grunt of frustration, she got up and began to walk out of the living room, her footsteps aggressive.

When she was out of sight, my father looked at me and gave me a small nod towards the door. It was a silent signal that he wanted to speak to Tiffany in private.

I wanted to give them that moment alone, so I left immediately and came to the foyer.

It was a bit too quiet at first until I heard a loud and raw sob from Tiffany and it stopped me in my tracks.

I turned back instinctively, my body already moving before I could think about it. When I reached the entrance to the living room, I didn’t walk in or even announce myself. I just stopped there and watched as my father now sat beside her with one arm around her shoulder. She was holding onto him tightly, like he could still keep her from completely falling apart.

He didn’t say anything to her even as she buried her face on his shoulder to cry uncontrollably.

A few seconds later, I walked away again until I was back in the foyer.

I stopped and rested my back against the wall so I could stay out of sight. That was something I wasn’t supposed to interrupt.

Part of me still felt that sympathy because no matter who Tiffany was, no one deserved to find out that their entire life was built on a lie like that. But then, another thought crept into my mind. She was pregnant with another man’s child. She was also living another lie. I exhaled slowly at how history had a way of repeating itself and if she wasn’t careful, she was going to become exactly what had broken her that day.
