Chapter 229
Chapter 229
Grayson
I came to the cafe where my mother–in–law wanted to meet me. It was a quiet place with only a few people around.
I found her sitting in a corner, her hair a mess despite looking like she had styled it at some point. She was still going through a lot of shit from the previous day. It explained why she had those shades on while looking a little hunched over.
When I approached the table and stood right in front of her, I couldn’t tell if she had seen me or not. It was only when I pulled out a chair and it scraped against the floor that she flinched a little, like I had just brought her back to reality.
Leaning back more in her seat to fix her posture, she said, “Good, you’re here.”
I was so curious to hear what she had to say about Tiffany’s father, but I just stood there without yet sitting down.
“Are you just going to keep standing there and blocking my view?” she said with a little arrogance.
I was already there, so I told myself that I might as well deal with whatever she would throw my way so I could hear what I was interested in.
Taking my seat across from her, I leaned forward and said, “I’m here now.”
She clicked her tongue in annoyance. “I’m not blind. I can see that. Anyway, how’s my daughter?”
I leaned back in my seat with a sigh of irritation. “You asked me that about 25 minutes ago on the phone and I told you that she was resting.”
“No need to be so rude.” She shook her head at me. “Have you told your family about what happened yesterday at the estate?”
“No. I haven’t.”
“Good and keep it that way. Your mom’s such a loud mouth.”
I clenched my fist. “I won’t let you talk about my mom like that.”
She scoffed. “She’s definitely a loud mouth. There are so many things I told her in confidence and I heard about it from someone else. She just can’t seem to keep her mouth shut.”
I already couldn’t take how she disrespected my mom and it made me get up, the chair scraping against the floor
She looked up at me, holding out the palm of her hands. “It hasn’t gotten to that.”
“If you think that I’m going to sit here and listen to you disrespect her like that, you’re wrong
“Ugh! You’re so dramatic Just sit down so we can talk. Or don’t you want to know?”
She had me right where she wanted me I wanted to know so badly, but I first needed to make one thing cleat
“One more word about my mom and I’ll walk out of here”
She chuckled, like I wasn’t as special as I thought I was She didn’t even have to say it out loud. I could already feel it, i ven with those shades on, I could imagine her looking at me a certain way Hut I decided not to think about that just so I couid get the information I was there for

Chapter 229
After sitting back down. I looked down at my wrist watch again. “I really have to go soon. This better not take long. Im already working late today.”
Ugh…” she gestured dismissively with her hand. “I didn’t call to meet you here so I could hear you talk about your work This is about my daughter.”
“I’ve been here for a few minutes now and you’re still not getting to the point,” I bluntly said to her.
She didn’t reply with one of her mean comebacks the way she usually did. The lower half of her face shifted into a softer expression before she spoke again.
“Ever since Tiffany confronted me yesterday about who her father is, I’ve been feeling so guilty.” Her voice was soft. “It also makes me feel horrible that my own daughter currently doesn’t want to talk to me.”
I didn’t even bother commenting on how she wanted to play the victim when she clearly wasn’t.
‘Even when I dropped her off, she made it clear that she’s very mad at you,” I said.
She placed a hand on her chest like that had just broken her heart. “I don’t blame her. Tell me something. How much do you ove my daughter?” Her voice turned even softer.
