The Invisible Girl's Revenge (Harper) novel Chapter 233

Chapter 233

Maddox

I was the first to get out of the car and shut the door behind me. The restaurant Nico had cho en was nothing pre just a modest place tucked between a few older buildings. The sign above the entrance even flickcreek like it wak abou off. I could also see a few people through the windows who were having their dinner inside.

I had been standing there and staring at the entrance for a few seconds with nothing else happening to I glanced bark my shoulder and noticed that the passenger doors were still closed. It made me wonder what my uncle and/Anna were doing inside.

Just a moment later, the door on Anna’s side finally opened and she stepped out first.

As soon as she lifted her head and our eyes met, I noticed the look in her eyes like she was blushing. Her expression immediately changed as if she had been caught doing something she wasn’t supposed to be doing.

I now understood why they were taking so long and she approached while looking a little embarrassed, I pressed my lips together just so I could fight that grin.

Just a second later, the other door opened and my uncle stepped out. His expression was perfectly neutral when he came into view. He even adjusted his jacket before looking directly at Anna, who was now standing beside me.

When we get inside,” he said calmly. Don’t say a word. Maddox and I will take care of that.

Fine.

Her tone was so flat that it was amusing because just a few seconds ago, I had caught her blushing.

I walked beside my uncle while she moved behind him.

The closer we got to the entrance, the more I found myself glancing back at Anna./Her earlier confidence was gone as her eyes kept drifting towards the entrance with shoulders that seemed slightly tense/She was nervous and I couldn’t blame her. Nico had been part of her life and that was such an awful period.

I glanced away for a few steps, but just a few seconds after that, I glanced back at her and noticed that her expression had softened. Even the tension in her shoulders eased. She looked downward and I was so curious that I followed her gaze. My eyes landed on my uncle’s hand firmly holding hers, like he wanted to let her know that he was there.

Seeing that made me look over at his side profile and his face remained completely blank while he stared straight ahead, as if nothing unusual was happening.

I thought they needed that moment, so I looked ahead again without commenting on it.

As we walked in, the hostess greeted us, but I barely paid attention because my focus was on the back corner of the restaurant. That was where Nico was sitting and he wasn’t alone. He was in the company of two other men who wore black. He sat in the middle and was the only one dressed in white.

They all looked relaxed at first and one of them was talking while another was scrolling on his phone. But everything changed when they noticed us. The man who was on his phone immediately put it down and the one who had been talking stopped immediately.

Nico looked over at us and more specifically, my uncle and I.

They all looked so uncomfortable at that moment that one wouldn’t even believe it had I told them just how dangerous those people could be. I was reminded at that moment just how much of an impression my uncle and I had left on them the

last time we met.

Chapter 233

Nico stood up so quickly that his chair scraped loudly against the floor. He didn’t even and up stranghalik ke whether he should greet us or wait for us to say something first so he doesn’t say the wrong thing

The two men with him also followed suit immediately.

Anna was still walking behind my uncle while they continued holding hands. Nico didn’t even dare look at her because the wasn’t the one making him nervous and it was the same thing for the other two.

It took him a few seconds but he finally had the courage to stand a little straighter before he spoke

Wwelcome!

He went on to call my name and my uncle’s but was careful not to mention Anna’s name. It was like he was afraid that even addressing her directly would get him into trouble.

Neither of us said a word and that made Nico awkwardly clear his throat

Please, sit down.

He snapped his fingers toward the two men.

You idiots. Move.

They instantly took a few steps back and stood behind him. Just a few months ago, the same men would have acted tough. now they looked like employees trying not to upset their boss and the three of us.

It was only after Anna took her seat that my uncle sat beside her.

I sat on her other side and the three of us faced Nico.

For a few seconds, nobody spoke, but Nico’s eyes kept drifting toward Anna. She sat calmly, though I could tell she wasn’t entirely comfortable.

Unable to hold it in, he finally said to her, You lookdifferent. He swallowed hard as he glanced at her wavy hair. I mean in a good way. The last time we saw each other, things were very different.

She didn’t bother saying a word to him and that made him keep going.

You look really good, Anna.”

He was still studying her when he looked in my direction and the second his eyes met mine, I didn’t have to say a word or even blink. His voice faded immediately and the rest of the compliment was gone

He even cleared his throat as he quickly looked down at the table.

My uncle was so mad about it that when he spoke, his voice was a little harsh right away.

Why did you want to see Anna?

Nico uncomfortably shifted in his seat. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting all three of you to come.

We were never going to let Anna meet someone like you alone,I said.

My uncle didn’t even add on to my comment. His eyes remained locked on Nico.

Why did you want to see her?

The question sounded more like an order this time.
