The Invisible Girl's Revenge (Harper) novel Chapter 237

Chapter 237

Harper

I stepped into the foyer right after my father and the lighting was so bright that I first looked up and saw the crystal chandelier that hung from a ceiling several stories above us.

While I had never seen such a chandelier before, I barely had time to take it in because I noticed a woman standing side of the twin staircases that were curved upward. She wasn’t even facing our direction, more like she was on her w but stopped while talking on the phone.

She was in an elegant cream-colored dress that stopped just above her ankles, making it easy to see the diamond het had on. That, along with the jewelry on her wrists, fingers, neck and ears made something glitter at each point.

It was only when my father chuckled beside me that I stopped staring at her too much.

“And that’s my wife, Veronica,” he said.

She was still facing the other side but when he said that. I instantly knew what her face looked like because that was D mother. He had shown me pictures before.

Veronica ended her call just then and turned around, her layered bob swaying with the movement. She was way more beautiful in person.

“Finally,” she said with a smile as she walked down the stairs.

I was standing right next to my father and smiling back at her even though she kept her eyes on him.

When she was close enough, she stood beside my father on the other side and rested her perfectly manicured hand on

arm.

For a second, I thought she was going to look over and greet me. Instead, she looked right past me and directly at Madde who was actually behind Anna.

“Maddox Aldridge,” she said with a warm smile. “What an honor. I can’t tell you how delighted we are to have you at our home.”

I blinked rapidly with disbelief. I was standing right in front of her and she ignored me with no hesitation

Because he clearly noticed it too, his expression didn’t change.

“Thank you,” he said with no smile or enthusiasm.

She seemed disappointed by his lack of excitement, but recovered quickly

Then she looked at Anna and said. “And you are?

My sister smiled politely “Tm Anna Harper’s sister and

“Oh!” Veronica suddenly interrupted “Of course! Harper there you are!

For a few seconds, no one said anything

I forced out a small laugh and said. “Yup I’ve been right in front of you the whole time

She forced a laugh as well. “Oh goodness i just couldn’t believe Maddox Aldridge way here so I was just making sure Her

Seyes then dropped to the purse in my other hand. “What a lovely purse.”

ET 56 voucher

The compliment should have sounded nice but it felt like she was inspecting it. She wanted to judge whether or not it belonged in that place.

Before I could respond. Maddox said, “I bought it for her just yesterday.”

Veronica raised her eyebrows then laughed. “Well, then it’s definitely authentic.”

I pressed my lips together because of how her comment wasn’t openly rude or kind either.

I even glanced at my father’s side profile and his smile faded slightly.

When I glanced over my shoulder at Anna, I saw her fighting the urge to speak her mind.

I knew at that moment that Veronica didn’t care about how certain comments made her look.

She even confirmed it for me when she placed her hand against my father’s chest.

“Everyone’s waiting.”

She turned toward a certain direction and glanced at Dean, who was stil! beside Maddox. “Walk with us.”

As Dean walked past me, he didn’t look too enthusiastic about it and looked back at me. The apology in his eyes was clear because he knew exactly how his mother was behaving. Still, he obeyed and moved beside her.

The three of them led the way in the long hallway while Maddox, Anna and I followed behind them.

The luxurious hallway had a lovely scent from the fresh flowers that sat on the pedestals every few feet.

Halfway down the hallway, Maddox suddenly slowed down and Anna and I glanced at him.

“What are you doing?” I whispered.

“I’ll be right there,” he said quietly then looked at Anna. “Stay back for a second.”

She frowned. “Why?”

“Just do it.”

Only a second later, she seemed to understand something.

“Oh.”

I looked between them, completely confused

Anna moved closer to Maddox while the rest of us continued walking

When he quietly said something to her, she smiled, then looked at me and mouthed a few words
