Chapter 238
Harper
Just as we approached the corner leading into the living room, my father moved away from Veronica and held out hi toward me. I looked at it then back at him. He gave me a proud and warm smile this time.
Veronica glanced at the two of us but didn’t stop. She walked into the living room, without waiting for anyone.
Dean hesitated, but in the end, decided to wait as well and that made me smile
started to think I wasn’t the only one struggling with Veronica.
placed my hand in my father’s and he must have felt the dampness of it because he looked down at it and said, “I’m bout my wife.”
His apology made me shake my head dismissively. “It has nothing to do with her. I’m just nervous to go in and meet veryone.”
Ah,I see. Just relax, alright? You’re here to meet your family, not some strangers.”
He was right about that and I took a deep breath.
He then glanced over my shoulder toward Maddox and my sister.
That was thoughtful of them,” he said.
was a little surprised because of how he had figured it out.
looked back at the two of them and realized how he did it. They were now just intentionally hanging back without even aying anything to each other. They really understood how important that was.
ust as my father and I were turning at the corner, Dean followed right behind and he smiled like he was that excited for
took another deep breath and just like that, we entered the living room. The conversations stopped and everyone turnes heir heads.
immediately understood why everyone had sounded so loud from the hallway. The living room was enormous aid just degant as what I had seen so far.
Now with everyone watching me, I tried my best not to look nervous as my father guided me taschernto the rooms
Dean cleared his throat from behind me and I glanced back at him, catching the mogant when he moved towards the othe side just so all the attention would remain on my father and me I appreciated that more than he knew.
When I looked around the room, everyone was still staring their eyes traveled from my shoes to my dress and to my purse It felt like they were silently judging brands and estimating the value of each tem
Still, it didn’t feel anything like it did when Veronica looked at me like that because there was some warmth behind then
smiles.
When my gaze landed on Veronica, she was also smiling but there was something different about hers. It was just like the one she’d had in the foyer
Then, I spotted Trina and she was standing beside her parents. Her simile wasn’t much better and at actually looked strained I almost laughed because part of me wondered if she was still bitter. After all, she load ined very hard to get between

Maddox and me when we were in Sydney but failed.
It was my father’s voice that made me pay attention to something other than her.
“My dear family,” he said proudly as his hand now rested on my shoulder. “I’d like everyone to meet my daughter. Harp His smile reached his eyes. “I can’t tell you how happy I am that she’s finally here today to meet her family.”
The response was immediate because a tall man with kind eyes stepped forward until he was right in front of me. I recognized him right away from the pictures Dean had shown me.
“Welcome!” He gave me a warm smile and his energy was already so bright. “I’m your Uncle Hank.” His handshake was fi but very welcoming. “I’ve heard so much about you from my daughter, Trina.”
I glanced at my cousin and she smiled, but that didn’t even reassure me because I wondered what she had said to him. T I thought it couldn’t have been that bad if he was welcoming me like that.
As my uncle and I shook hands, a pleasant and elegant woman stepped forward beside him. I already knew what she was going to say because Dean had shown me pictures of her as well.
‘Welcome, dear. I’m Susan, your uncle’s wife.” She then looked back and pointed at someone. “And over here is Trina’s younger sister, Lily.”
Lily looked like she was around sixteen. Unlike Trina, she seemed really excited and gave me an enthusiastic wave.
ust as soon as my uncle and his wife stepped back, another stunning woman approached and was just as elegant as all the >thers. I recognized her from the pictures as well. That was my Aunt Rachel.
Hello, dear, I’m your Aunt Rachel.” She smiled brightly showing off her pure white teeth.
Before I could respond, she lightly touched my arm.
Oh my goodness,” she said.
What?” I asked.
Your skin is flawless.” She looked genuinely impressed.
I chuckled. “Thank you.”
‘No, seriously.” She shook her head with a smile. “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it.
Just like my uncle and his wife, I already liked my aunt.
Three girls appeared beside her and the oldest looked about seventeen while the youngest couldn’t have been older than thirteen. All three of them were smiling at me and started introducing themselves at once. The result was chaos and I tound myself laughing as they talked over each other
