Chapter 246

Harper

Morning jogs used to be my favorite because not only were they peaceful and quiet, but they were also predictable Now there was nothing familiar about them.

I stood by my bedroom window that Friday morning with a bottle of wärer as I carefully pulled the curtain aside

First, I scanned the driveway, then the sidewalk and there was nothing. The street was completely empty as I couldn’t see any cameras or unfamiliar cars. There were also no people pretending to check their phones while secretly watching my

apartment.

I smiled with relief because for the first time in two weeks, I didn’t have to deal with those people.

While leaving my bedroom, I grabbed my phone and slipped it into the pocket of my leggings, along with my earphones.

I unlocked the front door with a level of enthusiasm I hadn’t had in a while and it was all because everything felt normal for once. I even stretched my legs on the porch before stepping onto the driveway.

The first few seconds were exactly how I remembered them a few weeks ago, just like my old life.

But when I turned at the corner that led to the walkway, everything changed.

“Shit! You’ve got to be kidding me,” I said to myself.

Three paparazzi who stood at a distance, looked up at exactly the same time.

“There she is!” one of them said while pointing at me.

I instantly turned around and started jogging in the opposite direction.

Right behind me, I heard a lot of footsteps and I knew right away that they were following me.

“Harper! Just one question!”

I chuckled with disbelief as I went a little faster. Why did I think that suddenly, everything was back to normal?

I thought jogging a little faster would get rid of them, but that only made them move faster as well, until some of them caught up with me.

There were camera shutters clicking every few seconds from behind me and right beside me on both sides.

“Harper! How has life changed since discovering you’re a Beauregard?”

“Have you already started running any of the companies?”

“Is it true that you’re learning directly from your father?”

I kept my eyes ahead and chose not to respond.

Despite my silence, someone else spoke up and his voice was louder than the others.

“How does it feel knowing that you’re going to go from one billionaire status to the other?”.

As much as I hated my morning jogs, I still didn’t feel the need for longer. I quickly changed the subject.

“Shouldn’t you be on your way to work by now?”

“Nope. I’m meeting my date for breakfast.”

That immediately got my attention. I intended to go to the bathroom, but 1

“Wait,” I said with excitement. “Who’s the lucky lady?”

He chuckled. “It’s nothing serious yet.”

Even though he emphasized the last word, my smile only grew wider.

“So that means there’s potential,” I said thoughtfully.

He sighed. “We’ll see.”

“I can’t wait to meet her.”

“You’ll only meet her if things work out.”

“They better.”

Before I could tease him about it, another call appeared on my screen and this time, it was my father.

“Hey, I’ve got a call coming in from Dad. We’ll talk later.”

Right after ending the call with him, I picked up my father’s call.

“Good morning, Dad.”

“Morning.”

While his voice sounded warm, there was concern underneath it.

“How are you?” he asked.

“I’m okay.”

“Are you sure?”

Then that’s a relief. I just saw the pictures of you on your morning jog. I just wanted to make sure that you’re alright.
