Chapter 247

Chapter 247

Grayson

On that Friday afternoon, I was on my way to get myself a new wristwatch, one that would match my casual outfit for the Barclay Twins’ birthday party.

I was in the backseat, glued to my phone, watching pictures of Harper from that morning when she had gone jogging and the paparazzi were chasing her.

Every angle of her perfectly highlighted her curves and I found myself biting my lower lip because she looked better than ever.

There were so many clips to see apart from the pictures and I kept watching all of them over and over again.

I was enjoying the view of her figure until I heard the question where one of them asked her about going from Harper Beauregard to Harper Aldridge. It ruined everything for me and I clicked off angrily.

I sat still for a few seconds, the grip on my phone tightening. I shut my eyes and when I imagined it, I quickly told myself to snap out of it. I already couldn’t stand it before it even happened. Then, I realized something and laughed to myself. There was no way they were going to get that far because they had to break up eventually. That was how most couples ended up anyway.

Just as I was thinking about all the ways they might break up, I received a call from Margot and it made me roll my eyes. I already knew what she wanted to ask, so I ignored her, but she kept calling.

She must’ve realized that I wasn’t going to pick up her call, so she texted instead, telling me that it was important and we needed to talk. I raised my eyebrows a little because that got my attention, so I called her back.

I instantly regretted it because of the first thing she said to me.

“Who the hell do you think you are to not pick up my calls until I actually have to tell you that it’s important?”

I sighed. “I was just very busy. What’s so important?”

Just for a second, I thought it was actually going to be something else other than what I was already thinking, but she proved me wrong.’

“Why didn’t you tell me that Tiffany wasn’t feeling too well this morning and needed to see the doctor?”

I held in my laugh. “I thought she told you.”

“Oh, don’t you dare mock me right now! You know very well that she’s still not talking to me. I had to hear this from your sister.”

“Then I guess you should be thanking her. Since we’re talking about Tiffany, you won’t believe what happened yesterday. I saw her talking to Brenda Jones.”

“What? Brenda?”

“Once she noticed that I was watching, she took Brenda elsewhere. Whatever she’s up to, she doesn’t want me to know about it.”

She let out a mocking laugh that was directed towards me. “I’m proud of her for doing that. The last thing she needs right now is for you to sabotage her plans. You’ve already done enough by blackmailing me.”

“Well, I wouldn’t call it blackmail. I’m just making sure those shares are in safe hands.”

She scoffed. “And those would be your hands?”

I sighed with irritation. “Is there anything else you want to say? I have a few important calls to make so if there’s nothing else…”

She gasped like she was offended. “I’m your mother-in-law, no matter what has happened in our family and I deserve a certain level of respect. Do I make myself clear?”

I rolled my eyes. “Whatever you say.”

Without giving her a chance to respond, I hung up on her. I had no problem doing it because it wasn’t like I was going to face any consequences.

When I stepped into the luxury store, there were so many wrist watches on display. I could’ve easily bought them all no matter the price, but I already had enough in my collection back home.

I was walking through when I heard a familiar voice from the other side. It definitely sounded like Maddox. I looked back and there he was, checking out a certain watch while on the phone. He hadn’t even noticed me yet and that was the best part because I heard him say something to the other person on the other end of the line that caught my attention.

“Hey, you better not tell my girl that I said every inch of you is tasty. How about we do something sneaky again?”

I found myself smirking with satisfaction because that was exactly what I needed. I didn’t even feel bad for Harper. The only way they were going to break up was if he broke her heart and there it was. He was cheating on her.

I couldn’t contain my excitement at that moment, but just a second after Maddox said that, the person on the other end of the line replied and all my hopes were crushed because it was actually Harper who laughed flirtatiously.

I was so disappointed and furious that I almost smashed the glass acting as a barrier for the watches on display right in front of me. How could I get my hopes up so quickly? Was I that desperate for them to end their relationship?

Harper’s response didn’t make me feel any better because she was going along with it. She wanted to have some sneaky sex. I was never going to forget the night of Maddox’s birthday, when the two of them fucked so hard like they wanted each other that much. And now to think that it was happening almost every day made me want to walk out and just come back some other time when he wasn’t there.

I was just about to turn and face the direction of the exit when Maddox said, “Oh, you’re here.”

Chapter 247

He sounded so friendly that I couldn’t believe it, so I looked back at him, wondering if he was talking to me and he definitely was. He even started to approach me.

I didn’t know what he was up to, but I just waved at him with a forced smile. The two of us weren’t friends, so that was quite unusual.

Right when he was close enough, I saw him clicking the side button of his phone to increase the volume.

Then, while looking at my face, he said, “Babe, you won’t believe who I just ran into.”

“Who?” She sounded so curious and enthusiastic.

“Grayson,” he smirked, like he really wanted me to hear the response that was about to come from her.

“Oh, him,” she said in a dismissive tone. “Anyway, I have to get back downstairs because my friends are waiting for me. I’ll call you later.”

She hung up before Maddox could say anything else.

I stood there, frozen for a moment. Harper didn’t even know that I was listening, yet she said that so comfortably like I was just a piece of shit.

It was only when Maddox spoke to me that I paid attention to him again.

“I didn’t think I’d see you here.”

I scoffed. “And I didn’t think you’d put me on the spot like that with Harper.”

“Come on. I just wanted her to say hi to you.”

I clicked my tongue, because I knew he didn’t mean that at all. He just enjoyed rubbing it in my face that Harper didn’t want to talk to me or know anything about me. I was hoping to change that tomorrow at the birthday party.

“You know, I’m still surprised you’re even coming to the party,” he said as he tried on a golden watch.
