Jaxon POV
“She hasn’t left her room, Alpha.” She said nervously.
“I want security footage pulled, NOW! I roared.
Within a few minutes, I’m watching the surveillance video. Sable came out of the room. Not only was I not there, but the fucking nurse left her station and was gone for more than ten minutes.
“Do you have surveillance showing which way she went when she left?” I asked the guard.
“Sure thing, Alpha, let me pull up the outside cameras.” He says.
He hits play and I see her. She walks towards the border. She left. She wasn’t awake for more than twenty-four hours and she left.
‘Matt, Sable left the pack. Gather a couple of warriors and let’s go find her.’
‘She left? I told you not to leave her.’ He said.
‘Now is not the time for, I told you so, Matt. Send out an alarm. I’m hoping she hasn’t gone too far. She’s injured and not fully recovered yet.’
‘Yes, Alpha.’
Within a couple of minutes, I hear the howl of the guards. I move outside quickly. I know the direction she went, from there, I will follow her scent.
As we started our search, I realized she walked right through the borders. No patrols were there. I clearly have some things to go over with Matt, after I find my mate. I pick up her scent going through the trees and making its way to the river. Dread is coming over me. If she got into the river, there is no telling where she is. I run faster and try to see if I can catch up with her. When I get to the water, her scent also stops. Which means she got in the damn river.
“FUCK!” I yelled out. Frustration bubbling up in my chest. I’m not used to these unsettling feelings. I never had them with Giselle. We just got together and stayed together until I found out about her betrayal. Before that, she never tried to run away.
“Alpha, do you still catch her scent?” Matt asks.
“It ends here.” I say, frustrated, “I think she went into the river. Not sure which way she would have gone.”
“Maybe she is going back to Dark Flame?” Matt suggests.
‘Stop getting emotional, Jax. Think for a second. Our mate is injured, and you’ve ignored her all day and abandoned her twice! She is probably looking for something or someone that can comfort her. Matt is right, we should head towards her old pack.’ Drax says, ‘Nia told me something about her and Sable living in a little cottage, Jax. We should go.’
I hear the shower running and I hear her hiss. She must have gotten her injury wet. I would love to watch her shower and see her incredible body, but I’m not a peeping tom. Just an intruder. Goddess, what the fuck am I doing?
‘You are getting our mate back. Start with an apology, you owe her more than one and you know it, idiot.’ Drax scolds me.
I decided to hide in the shadows and wait for her to dress in her bedroom. I think she is taking the longest shower on record. She’s been in there for what seems like forever. I wait patiently though. I need to make this right and convince her to come back with me before we are caught.
She finally opens the bathroom door, and my cock stands at attention again. She is in nothing but a towel that barely covers her. I feel my throat bob up and down. Damn it, she is gorgeous.
‘She is our mate. Go to her!’ Drax keeps pressing.
I see her walk past the doorway, and she is wearing the silliest pajamas. Pink with daisies all over them. Thank the Goddess for small favors though. At least she isn’t sleeping in some kind of nighty or naked. I don’t think I would be able to control myself then. My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of her crying. I am pretty sure I’m the one that made her cry, and I can’t stand hearing it. She is making me feel too many foreign things and it’s becoming more unsettling by the minute. Finally, I can’t take it anymore.
“Why are you crying?” I blurt out. Damn it, she jumps and looks like she is about to go into attack mode.
“Alpha Jaxon?”
