The Jilted Alpha (Jaxon and Sable) novel Chapter 29

Darius POV

It’s been a week. A fucking week since I lost my Sable. I know she wasn’t actually mine, but I had hopes to take her on as a chosen mate. She was right though, it was a suicide mission and, in my rage, I didn’t think things through. Then that fucker Jaxon stabbed my mate with a silver knife. I should have listened to her. I shouldn’t have told her to come. I should have done so many things differently. No one is ever going to match her beauty, wit, intelligence, laugh, scowls, and every other characteristic I have observed and admired since she walked into my life as a warrior. Now she is gone and it’s as much my fault as it is Jaxon’s. I will avenge her though. I will avenge my Sable.

Just then, my phone rings, and the ID is none other than Jaxon. Fury rises in me and I answer the phone.

“You fucking bastard! You killed my mate!” I snarl at him through the phone, “I will avenge her death, make no mistake, I’m coming for you Jaxon.”

There is silence on the other end. “Alpha Darius?”

Wait. What? That’s Sable’s voice. She’s alive!

“SABLE!?”

“Yes, it’s me Alpha, Sable. Why are you calling me your mate? Jaxon is my fated mate, Alpha Darius.”

No. No. No! He stabbed her and he is her fated mate? Is the Moon Goddess purposefully laughing at me?

“Sable, I’m glad you are alive. Do you need me to come get you? Are you still injured?”

Then I hear Jaxon’s irritating voice, “My mate is fine and is moving to Winter Moon. She is the pack’s Luna after all, Alpha Darius. I should also mention Elder Crane is on three way.” He adds.

Fuck. Crane just heard my outburst and declaration of Sable being my mate, which he knows is not true.

“Alpha Darius,” Crane speaks up, “You and I both have had conversations that you were interested in Sable but she wouldn’t accept a chosen mate and only wanted her fated mate or be alone. Those were your words, were they not?”

“Yes, sir. I let ‘mate’ slip as I care a great deal about Sable. Still she is my lead warrior and her place is here in Dark Flame.’ I say. She belongs here. In Dark Flame. With me.

Shit. Why did I have to open my mouth? Sable always said I would let my decisions be decided by my emotions and it would get me in trouble or killed one day. This is why I need her. She is my calm and my reasoning.

Having to think on my feet quickly, I gave a weak and sloppy answer, but it was better than nothing. “Elder Crane, I heard that Winter Moon was engaging in nefarious activities and rumors came to me about Winter Moon wanting to steal the equipment I use for agriculture to weaken my pack. I sent the scout to see if he could find out if there was any truth to these rumors.”

“I see. You didn’t think to report this to the Elder Council, for us to investigate? You decided to take matters into your own hands and then act on impulse to attack Winter Moon. This was not protocol and you know that, Alpha Darius. I see nothing wrong with Alpha Jaxon defending his territory from any threats.” He responded. I’ll take the scolding, I can’t have him know the real reason behind my spying on Winter Moon.

Crane speaks again, “Having said all that, since you will not agree to the truce, you leave me with no choice but to enforce the truce. Alpha Jaxon and HIS mate will be there in two days time with a truck, and some of their warriors to assist in moving Ms. Embers belongings. I will also be there with the Elder Council warriors to ensure the smooth transition. If you try to undermine this transition, I will have no choice but to go to the rest of the elders to have you stripped of your title and replaced with a more capable and peaceful Alpha. Am I understood?” He says harshly.

Gritting my teeth I reply, “Yes, Elder Crane.”

Then that prick Jaxon speaks up again, “We will be there in two days by noon. Thank you for allowing us to get Sable’s things.”

“I will see you in two days Sable.” I said and hung up. I didn’t even bother saying goodbye to Jaxon or Crane. Fuck them. I will have my revenge. I will get Sable back. She will be my mate and Luna. I’ll be damned if I leave her to Jaxon.
