Chapter 11 The Cooling-Off Period
Not far away, sitting in the car, Rowena urged, “Jack, I see Lina already went inside.”
Finished
Jack’s eyes flashed slightly. He suppressed the frustration in his heart, opened the car door without a word, and got out. There was still half an hour until two o’clock. Is Elina really that eager?
He walked toward the building, and Rowena quickly followed.
Elina was reviewing some documents for her upcoming studies abroad when she suddenly felt a shadow fall over her. Looking up, she saw Jack. Instinctively, she locked her phone screen.
“Only two numbers ahead,” she said as she slipped the phone into her bag and calmly stared at the service window.
Jack noticed her evasive movements. Sitting beside her, he asked coldly, “What were you looking at?”
“None of your business.” With just four words, their conversation ended.
Jack’gritted his teeth, his face dark, but said nothing more. He wanted to see how Elina would beg him not to divorce once they sat down at the desk.
Outside, Rowena watched them through the window, snapping photos of their tense faces and sending them to her younger daughter.
At that moment, Elowyn was sunbathing in the hospital garden. Seeing her mother’s updates, she couldn’t. hide her growing smile.
‘I passed by his room yesterday,” a voice nearby whispered, “and overheard them mentioning Dr. Ford. Shameless.”
‘I heard it was Dr. Ford’s own mother who stirred things up, trying to get Elowyn to wreck Dr. Ford’s family.”
“Tch, you didn’t hear the kid say she wanted the mistress as her new mom!”
Elowyn’s expression darkened, and she was about to explode, but then something else caught her
attention.
‘Luckily, Dr. Ford is going abroad for three years soon. By the time she’s back, she’ll probably forget all about this mess.”
‘Exactly. With so many handsome guys overseas, someone like Dr. Ford-with her looks and abilities- won’t have trouble finding someone better.”
The voices faded into the distance. Sitting there, Elowyn smiled slyly.
At the City Hall, the announcement called their number. Elina stood up immediately and walked quickly to the window, her urgency unmistakable. Jack’s dissatisfaction grew deeper, but years of superiority over Elina taught him not to lash out.
Suddenly, Elina stopped and turned to look at him.

Jack sneered inside but kept his face cold. “Getting scared?”

He had expected it. How could Elina willingly give up the title of Mrs. Mansor?
Elina looked at him seriously. “Did you bring the divorce agreement?”
Both copies were with Jack, awaiting his signature. His breathing hitched, and anger rose as he stared at the woman before him. Jack didn’t answer her. Instead, he signaled his assistant, Howard Fabian, to bring in the documents.
At the window, the clerk began the standard final counseling before a divorce. “You two have been married for years, you’re still young, and you have a child…”
Before the woman could finish, Elina slid the divorce papers through the window. “Sorry to interrupt, but I’m really in a hurry. Please process it quickly.”
Her voice carried a hint of apology-something she could still offer a stranger.
Jack, thinking about this, barked coldly, “Cut the nonsense.”
The woman glanced at him and got straight to work. “After a 30-day cooling-off period, you both must return together to collect your divorce certificate.”
30 days. Elina frowned slightly but took the documents. “Thank you.”
Just as she finished speaking, Jack stood up and left without a word.
The clerk lowered her voice and asked Elina, “Is he emotionally abusive? Or physically violent?”
Elina shook her head helplessly. “Neither.”
“Then he must have cheated. Handsome and rich men like him either have strange fetishes or can’t resist any woman. Divorcing him is a blessing.”
Elina just smiled faintly and left. Is it cheating?
The one who had an affair with Jack was indeed Elowyn.
During the time Elina had resigned herself to an ordinary life, they delivered a blow she could never forget.
Walking out of the City Hall, Elina felt the early spring sun warm her face. For the first time in a long while, her numb heart stirred. Whatever the case, as long as the ending was what she wanted, that was enough. Everything else, she could stay far away from.
Her phone rang. Elina snapped back to reality and answered.
On the line, Xenon Champ’s voice was calm but warm. “Have you reviewed the documents? Anything you need changed?”
“I did. Why did you include accommodation and meals? I’m going there to study, not vacation.”

He paused a few seconds. “Since you’ve decided to come, of course I want you treated the best. I don’t want you to suffer.”
Elina chuckled. “You talk like you’re in charge of the program.”
