Nora walked out of the main doors of Metropolis Central Hospital.

The rain-washed streets emanated a bone-chilling dampness. The freezing wind lashed against her, sending violent, continuous shivers through her body.

Her hands, heavily wrapped in thick medical gauze, hung like dead weights at her sides.

Two Hayes bodyguards, who hadn't let her out of their sight, stepped forward.

"Mrs. Hayes, it's time. Please come back with us."

Nora stopped, her chapped lips trembling slightly. She looked at these familiar faces and forced a raw, gravelly voice from her throat. "Gideon sent you to drag me back, didn't he?"

"Mr. Hayes gave the order."

The captain of the guard looked directly at Nora's pale face, ruthlessly relaying Gideon's decree. "You are to remain at the manor, in the place where his sister lived, to atone for her death. Mr. Hayes explicitly stated you are not permitted to go anywhere else."

At the word 'atone', not a single ripple crossed Nora's lifeless eyes.

Her family was gone.

Xavier Holdings had filed for bankruptcy, all their assets seized by the bank. Her parents' properties had been locked down with foreclosure seals.

Her father was lying in the ICU after a stroke. Her mother was stranded in the hospital corridors day and night. Her brother looked at her with nothing but loathing and wanted her gone.

Aside from the mud-soaked clothes on her back, she had absolutely nothing left. She didn't even have a roof to shelter her from the rain.
