Gideon's hand froze in midair, the massive Cotton Candy sitting awkwardly between them, completely unwanted.
Nora's words were deliberate and cutting, shredding his self-righteous attempt at compensation to pieces.
"Did you actually believe that as long as you were willing to lower your head, as long as you humored me with this childish game, I'd just wipe the slate clean and be forever grateful to you?"
She looked at the gorgeous Carousel, not a single trace of joy in her eyes.
"I outgrew this kind of stuff a long time ago."
His arm remained suspended in the air.
The anticipation in the man's eyes instantly died out, his tall frame suddenly looking stiff against the ocean wind.
He lowered his head, his gaze dropping to the pink sugar, his expression turning thoroughly despondent.
"I thought... girls liked these things."
His voice came out raspy, heavy with a profound sense of defeat.
He had thought that if he made the gesture grand enough, if he personally accompanied her, she would be happy.
"I was being stupid."
He muttered the admission, his eyes filled with grievance and remorse.
He looked up at her, the rims of his eyes turning red.
"I just wanted to make it up to you."
"I didn't know how to make you smile, I just wanted to compensate you. I saw other couples coming to places like this, buying things like this... I thought you'd like it too."
His Adam's apple bobbed heavily. "I saw how hard you were working at the flower shop every day, and I wanted you to experience this... I just wanted you to be a little happier."
He was desperate to explain his motives, only to realize that all his words were incredibly pale and powerless against her coldness.
Watching his wounded expression, Nora shifted her gaze away from his face and back to the pink candy.
*Girls liked these things.*
The words echoed in her mind, dragging up a myriad of bitter memories she had long sealed away.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Love I Begged For Was Never Real
Storyline is good..but author is wasting time on character's thoughts.why r u streching chapters it's really really boring and annoying.conversation between them childish.she is only saying him get out n what right do u have ..not telling him what he did to her not questioning him..demanding answer. And what happened to him why sudden change of heart care to explain author.....
For the past few chapters either she is sick or he is. It is slightly boring. Author pls let them talk about the issues , she is not at all scolding him.. every scoldings are playing in her mind only. We want some talk between them....
I am also thinking the same....
Has he mistaken Nora as Giselle?...
What happened to him🤔 did he forget everything?...
Hey can u also upload the book " woke up married to my cheating ex"....
Does he know the orphan girl is actually Nora?...
So is he trying to justify everything? At wat rite??? Wer were he wen she needed him the most.......
Haha finally going to see redemption...
I don’t think reborn will happen in this novel. It will be full of her blood only. Actually The title should be changed to only Nora’s suffering instead the love I begged was never real....
