The only thing she ever got in return was the exhaust of his black Maybach speeding away, and the cold, dismissive "Don't bother me" thrown from his rolled-down window.
After marrying him, she packed away all her innocence and fantasies, forcing herself into the mold of a cautious, calculating Mrs. Hayes who was always ready to cater to his preferences.
By this man's side, she had to maintain absolute elegance and maturity. She could never show even a sliver of a young girl's childishness or caprice.
Because what Gideon needed was a proper wife, not a child who needed to be coddled.
Back then, how desperately she had wished he would hold her hand and take her to an amusement park just once.
She was a living, breathing human being. She wanted to feel cared for, even if only for a single moment.
Even if he just bought her a cheap cotton candy from a street vendor, she would have been so happy she wouldn't have slept for days.
But eventually, she got used to burying those extravagant hopes deep down, used to never expecting any romantic gestures meant for a young girl.
Now, the very man who had robbed her of her youth and happiness had bought out an entire amusement park, and was standing in front of her holding a cotton candy, telling her he wanted to compensate her.
A belated compensation to someone who had already been completely destroyed was more nauseating than poison.
Nora felt a sudden, inexplicable tightness in her chest.
She stared at Gideon's stubbornly raised arm.
His knuckles were white from how tightly he was gripping the stick. The pink sugar was already starting to melt in the ocean breeze, sticking to the edge of the paper cone.
The grievance and careful desperation in his eyes were so real they couldn't be entirely ignored.
Silently, Nora let out a sigh.
She didn't even know what she was fighting against anymore.
Was it this self-righteous man, or the girl she used to be who couldn't even afford a piece of candy?
Leaning forward slightly, she didn't reach for the paper cone.
Instead, she just closed the distance, parted her dry lips, and took a small, reluctant bite right off the edge of the fluffy cloud in his hand.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Love I Begged For Was Never Real
Storyline is good..but author is wasting time on character's thoughts.why r u streching chapters it's really really boring and annoying.conversation between them childish.she is only saying him get out n what right do u have ..not telling him what he did to her not questioning him..demanding answer. And what happened to him why sudden change of heart care to explain author.....
For the past few chapters either she is sick or he is. It is slightly boring. Author pls let them talk about the issues , she is not at all scolding him.. every scoldings are playing in her mind only. We want some talk between them....
I am also thinking the same....
Has he mistaken Nora as Giselle?...
What happened to him🤔 did he forget everything?...
Hey can u also upload the book " woke up married to my cheating ex"....
Does he know the orphan girl is actually Nora?...
So is he trying to justify everything? At wat rite??? Wer were he wen she needed him the most.......
Haha finally going to see redemption...
I don’t think reborn will happen in this novel. It will be full of her blood only. Actually The title should be changed to only Nora’s suffering instead the love I begged was never real....
