The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 54

"Nora, watch your attitude."

Gideon frowned, seemingly deeply annoyed by her tears. This rebellious defiance, entirely out of his control, made him extremely uncomfortable.

"You were the one who begged to marry me back then. You kept saying you loved me, that you would protect the Hayes family. Now you just want to walk away? What do you think the Hayes family is? You come and go as you please—have you ever considered our reputation?"

Reputation again. It was always these high-sounding excuses.

She had spent ten years of her youth, compromising and giving up everything, only to be reduced to such a pathetic evaluation in this man's eyes. She had been stripped of all her pride in this marriage, trampled in the mud at will.

She looked up, her eyes bloodshot, a self-deprecating smirk tugging at her lips.

"Yes, I was shameless. I had no sense of dignity."

Nora's voice trembled uncontrollably as she deliberately stabbed him with Giselle's name.

"Are you refusing because you're afraid of being known for abandoning your first wife, or are you worried that if Giselle finds out you haven't handled this marriage properly, it might upset her?"

Hearing Giselle's name, Gideon instinctively retorted, "This has nothing to do with Giselle."

Looking at Nora's red eyes, the strange discomfort in his chest grew heavier.

"Nora, stop projecting your dirty thoughts onto her. I'm not even done settling the score with you for targeting her, and now you're out here cozying up to Julian. What exactly are you trying to pull?"

"Dirty?"

It was always like this.
