The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 556

Just then, Liam York quietly backed out from inside. Seeing Nora approach, he immediately bowed and lowered his voice.

"Ma'am, Mr. Hayes is awake. The blade missed his heart, and the wound required eight stitches. But he... he refuses to take any painkillers. He keeps asking to see you."

Nora pushed the door open, her expression completely blank.

Gideon was leaning halfway against the headboard, thick white bandages wrapped tightly around the left side of his chest.

"Nora... don't go..."

His faint voice echoed through the quiet room, laced with the weakness and raspiness of heavy blood loss.

Having finished treating the wound, the medical team quickly and tactfully packed up their equipment, slipped out of the room, and shut the door behind them.

Only the two of them were left in the room.

The ocean breeze fluttered the curtains, the draft diluting the heavy scent of blood in the air.

Nora stood up, walked into the bathroom, and turned on the faucet.

Freezing water cascaded over her fingers.

She pumped a generous handful of soap and scrubbed her palms and the back of her hands frantically, almost as if she had lost her mind.

The foam turned a pale pink, swirling down the drain.

But no matter how hard she scrubbed, the scalding sensation of Gideon's blood felt as if it had been permanently burned into her nerve endings.

She shut off the tap, pulled a dry towel, and meticulously wiped her hands, staring at her pale, taut face in the mirror.

Why.

She asked herself over and over again.

Using self-harm to guilt-trip her. Using borderline suicide to force her to stay.
