The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 557

Gideon stared deeply into her eyes, pulling a weak smile.

"You were crying earlier. You were terrified I was going to die. Nora, you still care about me, don't you?"

Nora yanked her hand back forcefully. Seeing the faint smear of blood left on her knuckles, a wave of nausea washed over her.

"Don't flatter yourself. I just didn't want a dead body bringing me bad luck."

Gideon didn't mind her harsh words at all.

As long as she still showed even the slightest hint of panic for him, he felt this broken body of his still held value.

He was even glad he hadn't hesitated to plunge the knife in, trading it for her momentary pause and compromise.

"Gideon, spare me the pitiful act."

Nora's gaze swept over the thick bandages on his chest.

"Do you think stabbing yourself wipes the slate clean? The life of the great Mr. Hayes is far too precious. I can't afford it."

She turned around coldly and headed for the door.

"Since the doctor patched you up, stay here in the villa and behave. The typhoon has passed. I'm going back to open the flower shop this afternoon."

Gideon jerked his head up, a flash of anxiety in his eyes. "You haven't fully recovered yet. Your fever only just broke last night..."

"The typhoon just ended. I don't know if the shop flooded or if Anya can handle it on her own. I have to go check."

Nora cut him off, her tone leaving no room for argument.

"If you insist on stopping me, then order your guards to tie me to this bed."

"Then I'm coming with you."

Gideon made a move to throw off the blankets.

"Gideon."
