The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 108

I’m not opposed,Massimo replied. Don’t overwork yourselves though.

Excellent! One celebration dinner party coming up!

You’re aware this trial will drag on at least for another week, correct?

I’m not being literal and you know it.

Finally, the day Elena was to testify arrived. She was sure to wear a modest blue sweater and a long matching skirt. She didn’t want to give the judge any reason to think poorly of her.

She arrived at the courthouse early. So early in fact that she got to see the prosecution’s witnesses for the day talking to Joshua and some police officers. Worst yet, Elena recognized the three women who would be speaking before her.

One was the woman who shamelessly flirted with Massimo on the cruise ship, Lucilia Abano. The oldest of the group was Kyle Dioli’s elderly motherElena was surprised the prosecution called on someone so frail to come to court. The third was a woman Elena had never learned the name ofthe woman was too busy being Tyler’s accessory on the cruise to ever introduce herself.

Elena’s stomach sank.

Elena’s worst fears were confirmed as, one by one, the mafia went up to the witness stand and tore into Massimo. They all said horrible things about the Mafia King and painted him as a terrible, powerhungry chauvinist.

I’ve never seen or even heard of Massimo valuing what a woman has to say, let alone do,Lucilia stated.

I wasn’t at the cruise myself,Mrs. Dioli admittedly, but I vividly remember how bloody the streets got when Massimo first came into power.

The only reason Elena was forced to put a gun to her head was because the Don of All Dons allowed it,Tyler’s fling declared calmly. A big meeting like that can only happen with the Mafia King’s approval. At any point, he could’ve chosen to handle the matter differentlybut he didn’t.

Elena could hardly believe what she was hearing. No matter how good Massimo’s lawyer was, he couldn’t dismiss all these women’s statements as baseless.

Things weren’t looking good for Massimo.

As Elena listened to their testimony, she couldn’t help but feel that the mafia women weren’t being malicious. Though they were saying terrible things about Massimo, none of them were exactly wrongthey were just presenting the truths they had seen in the worst way possible.

Elena began to see patterns in how they spoke and the way they did or didn’t look at the police officers in the room.

Mrs. Dioli was quick to protect other mafia members from getting blamed for any crimes. She was always careful not to name names or point fingers at anyone. It was pretty obvious to see that she was trying to prevent the cops from going after any of the other family membersElena could easily imagine Mrs. Dioli agreeing to testify if the police had threatened to press charges against her son who had attended the cruise meeting.

Lucilia was a tad harsh, clearly wanting to paint Massimo as a total jerk, but Elena doubted that someone as conniving as her would have volunteered to testify. Elena remembered that it was Lucilia’s father who was identifying the blank shots during the game of Russian Roulettehad Lucilia cut a deal with the prosecution to leave her father out of all this if she testified? Lucilia looked at the police officers with too much hatred for Elena to think anything else.

And Tyler’s fling was simply clueless. She didn’t seem to have a good grasp on how mafia politics worked, even if she spoke confidently on them.

Elena couldn’t help but notice that all of the prosecution’s witnesses were women. If they messed up and said something incriminating during the trial, they could easily be cut out of the mafia world. Their fathers or sons or lovers could continue to run their illegal activities with no real consequencesonly the women would suffer.

We’ll hear from our witness,Mr. Barbieri finally said as he gestured for Elena to take the stand.

Joshua reacted with shock. Elena? But her disappearance was caused by Massimo-
