Elena and Massimo quickly made the arrangements to host the Conti family in Florida. Despite Massimo’s lack of enthusiasm, he was very insistent that the trip take place in Miami over any other city. He was also very picky about what hotel to pick.
“We need something of five star quality, but it can’t seem like we’re trying to show

Elena tried to find some places, but Massimo shot down each one. Eventually, she just decided he could deal with that particular problem. After all, she could only help as much as Massimo let her.
Elena was certain Massimo wanted this all to work out. Even if he said he wasn’t sure what to expect, he was still giving his all. He very careful to plan things carefully according to his cousins‘ preferences–he even had Luca pull up their medical files.
“The older family members have gotten blamed for letting the traitor Giuseppe become in charge,” Massimo explained. “And those who aren’t being blamed aren’t fit for travel. But our knowledge can’t be lacking on anyone who arrives–especially if an emergency comes up.”
Luca nodded as he went through the medical files with Elena. “Cappo Rocco’s wife, Riley, has a lot of allergies.”
Elena frowned. “These tests are from a few years ago, so that could’ve changed, but it’s unlikely she’s completely cured.”
Elena looked over the list. Riley was allergic to many foods and natural plants–that definitely would pose a problem.
Massimo took a look at the long list. “Elena, you should come with and be on hand in case anything happens.”
“Of course,” she said with a nod. “I’ll clear my schedule.”
Luca sighed dramatically. “It seems Don Massimo has replaced me.”
Elena felt a slight blush creep up her cheeks as she turned away. She had gotten closer to Massimo–but only because they were working well as a team, right? She definitely had made sure she hadn’t crossed any boundaries.
Elena suddenly remembered Massimo’s impending divorce. Or had he already gotten divorced? Elena had been so busy, she hadn’t had a chance to ask either Massimo or Aria about it.
But then again, Elena knew Massimo hated questions about his personal life. She should prob She quickly buried her head in the the Conti family’s medical records.

Massimo frowned, grabbing his own stack of papers. “Let’s stay focused on work. You can complain on your own time.”
Elena returned to her apartment late that night. She wanted to just go to bed, but she saw Aria on the couch.
“Long time no see,” Elena said with a smile. “I would’ve expected you to be out on a date.”
Aria smiled back. “Nah, I just needed a minute to relax by myself. What’s up with you?”
“Not much.”
“Not much?” Aria repeated in disbelief. “You never came home last night. Did you patch things up with your husband?”
Elena winced. “No, I just had a work thing. Speaking of which, I’m going to be out town for a few weeks because of work.”

“Aw,” Aria frowned. “That means we won’t have much time to hang out before I go.”
“Don’t worry,” Elena hurriedly comforted, “I’ll be back before you leave. We’ll still have a cont led to chill by ourselves.”
“Good.” Aria got up and gently placed her hand on Elena’s shoulder. “But why do we have right now?”

Elena somehow ended up agreeing to go out to some clubs with Aria. Even though all Elena wanted to do was sleep.
Her friend did have a point–there was only so much time left until they parted. After that, there was no saying whether or not they’d ever get the opportunity to hang out again.
Still, Elena wished Aria hadn’t chosen to go clubbing. The atmosphere was dark and damp, and the music was too loud. Plus so many people kept trying to get Aria’s attention.
It wasn’t long before Elena was taking a break in one of the few unclaimed booths. Aria didn’t take too long to notice Elena’s absence.
“Sorry, I know this isn’t your scene, but I come bearing gifts.” Aria arrived at the booth with two pink cocktails.” Well, the bartender gave them to me for free, but I still think they count as gifts.”
