“I just worry about you,” Aria said slowly. “I know you’re a lot tougher than I am, but you’re still just a human person.”

Though Elena had tried not to think too deeply about her time imprisoned with Aria, it all came to her mind now. Elena recalled how terrifying the experience was. Aria, who was just a civilian, truly must have had quite a shock.

Elena grabbed Aria’s hand and gave it a comforting squeeze. “I know. I’ll be careful.”

“I’m sure you will be,” Aria continued with a frown. “But all it takes is one mistake for someone like… someone like Tyler to do something awful. I couldn’t stand you getting hurt like that again, El.”

Aria’s words stirred up feelings Elena hadn’t gotten a chance to fully process. Elena had been so busy with Massimo’s trial and then her work to focus on the horrifying experience she had lived through.

Elena never wanted to go through something like that again. But truthfully, her abduction wasn’t the first danger Elena had faced.
