Chapter 127
Elena still wasn’t used to riding in a private jet–let alone Massimo’s private jet, which she was sure was lavish even compared to other private jets. At least this time she had plenty of work to keep her busy. She was determined to have the Conti family’s emergency medical information memorized.
She knew she was probably going overboard, but she wanted to be prepared in case anything went wrong. Given how Elena’s experience with mafia business tended to go, she felt it was wise to stay on top of
Besides, even the cool, collected Massimo spent the jet ride looking over documents and the staying in Miami, Florida with the Contis.

When the jet landed, Massimo rushed himself and Elena to the Grand Mermaid Hotel. He needed everything to be perfect.
His phone buzzed unexpectedly.
“Sir, it appears the Conti family has already touched down,” one of the airport staff members told him.
Massimo was both grateful he had made sure to get an inside man at the airport yet enraged at the bad news. ” What,” he gritted out.
“They’ve landed in Miami, sir,” the man replied. “I could stall them for maybe a half hour-”
“Don’t bother,” Massimo replied. He hung up immediately.
Elena wasn’t sure what Massimo had heard on the phone, but it was obviously bad news. He was scowling deeper
than she had ever seen.
“Everything okay?” Elena asked.
“The Contis will be here any minute,” Massimo said gravely.
Elena jolted. Massimo had insisted they arrive a few days early to make sure all the preparations were made to his exacting standards. No wonder he was mad!
“Let’s focus on the essentials then,” Elena said calmly. “Let’s see if we can get their rooms ready at least.” They couldn’t get the rooms ready in time. Massimo was beyond frustrated as the Conti family entered the Grand Mermaid Hotel’s lobby.
Capo Rocco and his wife Riley were the only two smiling. Capo Elio and his wife Luna were more reserved–not frowning, but not being overly enthusiastic either. Massimo was surprised that Don Nico had not only chosen to attend but had decided to bring his wife Beatrice as well.
Massimo was happy he had brought Elena. It would have been odd to meet three couples by himself.
On the one hand, it was a good show of faith for the new Don Conti to come to this business arrangement himself. It showed that Don Nico wasn’t scared of being harmed for the old traitorous don’s mistakes. It therefore also showed a significant amount of trust and fellow respect.
But arriving early shattered all of that. Massimo couldn’t be sure why the Conti family had decided to be so rude and arrive several days ahead of schedule.
Did they not trust Massimo? Did they think he would sabotage them somehow?
Elena bowed once it was her turn to make introductions. “We did manage to make sure your rooms were ready for you. They should still be prepared to your liking-”

“You shouldn’t have,” Beatrice replied. “Which floor are we on?”
“The third,” Elena replied.

Beatrice frowned. “That won’t do. We always stay on the fifth floor–it’s our lucky number.”
Massimo wanted to scream. All that scrambling to get their rooms prepared, and for what? Hew beginning to think the Contis were going to oppose every single step of their stay!
Elena could tell tensions were getting high. In particular, Beatrice and Massimo seemed to wrong foot. Elena couldn’t let their relationship sour before it had even begun.
