Elena was exhausted. She had fun learning more about Massimo’s extended family, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t tired.
Beatrice, oddly, was the first to notice. “While we’re here, why don’t we visit the aquarium down the street? It’d be a nice way to unwind before we get down to business.”
Luna and Riley nodded their approval.
“I’ve actually never been to an aquarium before,” Elena admitted.
“Really?” Rocco asked. “You’re missing out.”
“It’s just a zoo for fish, isn’t it?” Massimo asked.
“Don’t tell me you haven’t been either?” Luna asked. When Massimo shook his head, she continued, “Well, now we have to go.”
“You all finish up here while I get the tickets then,” Elio said.
And just like that, they were off to the aquarium. Elena wanted to take things slowly–that way she could actually get some rest instead of running around like she had been all day. But even if Elena wasn’t determined to relax and slow down, her curiosity insisted that she did.
“I can’t believe there’s creatures with such bright colors,” Elena admitted, awe–struck. “And look how fast that one moves!”
“I see it,” Massimo replied, fully disinterested.
“You could at least try to sound a little excited,” Elena scolded.
“I don’t see the point,” Massimo replied.
“You should–Massimo, look! That one nearly blends into the glass. How cool is that?”
Massimo only hummed in response.
The others were scattered around the floor, but Elio and Rocco came closer as Elena excitedly pointed out the different fish.
“Kinda reminds you of a certain capo,” Rocco joked.
Elio shoved his shoulder playfully. “That reminds me, did you ever get that deal to go through?”
“It’s actually a funny story-”
“Do I need to remind you that we promised to put work on hold,” Massimo interrupted.
“Relax,” Elio said, his hands in the air. “We’re not doing anything wrong.”
“It’s the principle of keeping a promise,” Massimo insisted. He wasn’t looking at either man, but his voice conveyed his displeasure perfectly. “We gave our word that we would wait until after the aquarium to talk business, so that’s what we will do.”
The other men rolled their eyes fondly and went to find their wives. Elena couldn’t help but notice that during their whole conversation, Massimo had kept eyes on one of the nearby shark exhibits.

“Find anything interesting?” Elena asked.
Massimo simply shrugged.
“Let’s move onto the next floor then,” Elena suggested teasingly. “Maybe they’ll be something you’ll like there.”
“Elena, you don’t have to rush through on my account,” Massimo replied.
Elena wanted to laugh. She settled for a smile. “Alright, then let’s look at the sharks since I haven’t seen them yet.

After the long aquarium visit, the group returned to the hotel and split off to their separate rooms to get ready for lunch. Elena understood the real business deals would happen then.
