The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 147

Chapter 147

The moment Aria’s car had disappeared, Elena only felt exhausted. Not only did she have to lose her best friend today but her apartment, too.

Elena remembered all of her own boxes that still needed to be moved out of the apartment. She sighed.

Today really can’t get any worse, she grumbled.

Just then, Elena spotted a familiar luxury car drive up. It stopped in front of her and Massimo stepped out.

He looked at her expectantly, but didn’t say a word.

What is it?Elena asked. Is there a work emergency?

Massimo frowned. Aren’t you moving out today?

Elena was puzzled by his response but nodded.

His expression smoothed out. And you still don’t own a car?

Again, Elena nodded.

I thought so,Massimo said. So

Rather than finishing his sentence, Massimo gestured vaguely at his car and then at Elena’s apartment building. Massimo’s face came as close to a sincere smile as Elena had ever seen.

Elena’s eyes widened. He couldn’t seriously be offering what he thought he was! But what else could he be trying to say?

Are you here to help me move out?Elena asked, skeptical. But to her great shock, Massimo nodded.

Massimo made quick work of carrying down all of Elena’s thingswhile Elena herself was still reeling from Massimo’s sudden and unexpected arrival. With Massimo now here in Elena’s old home, the reality that she was about to start living with her boss sank in.

And, well, that revelation made Elena feel a whole web of tangled emotions. But the strongest emotion by far was panic.

She would need to make sure they were on the same page. There would have to be clear lines.

Elena didn’t want to risk ruining their relationship. She liked how Massimo and her were currently. Besides, if she was really going to give her mystery husband a second chance, she wanted to make sure her work relationship was just that a work relationship with her boss.

And amicable, friendly relationship, yes, but a work relationship nonetheless.

Massimo was pleased. Elena would be moving into the Ferraro estate!

But rather than excited, Elena looked nervous and lost in thought. As Massimo and her carried down the last set of boxes, she suddenly spoke up.

So,Elena started casually, how much will my monthly rent be?

Massimo would’ve shrugged if his hands weren’t full. Does it matter? You can just stay for free.

Absolutely not,Elena immediately shot back. I can’t just mooch off my boss. That’s incredibly unethical.

Elena, I have far too much money to care about charging you rent,Massimo replied.

Even if you’re okay with it, I’m not,Elena insisted. It’s not fair.

+25 Bonus

Elena paused for a second. I can pay you my old rent rate for this apartment, she offered.

Massimo understood this was going to be a sticking point for Elena. She wouldn’t allow him to let her stay at his estate for free, but Massimo didn’t want the woman he loved to waste a bunch of money. Maybe he could talk her down to accepting a lower price.

Shouldn’t you pay less?Massimo argued. “You’ll only be renting a bedroom instead of a full apartment with your own kitchen and living room.

Am I not allowed in those spaces?Elena asked.

No, you can go wherever you please-

Then shouldn’t I pay more?Elena interrupted. I’m not sure if you noticed, but your estate is far nicer than anything on the renting market.

Massimo resisted the urge to groan. This wasn’t going well. How had he convinced Elena of the exact opposite of what he wanted?

Yes, there are nicer facilities at my estate,Massimo conceded, but you don’t have any control over those spaces. You can’t put your furniture there or move things around or repaint the walls or anything. The only space you have any control over would be your bedroom.

Elena paused. She was clearly thinking over Massimo’s words, which meant he needed to really give her no room to negotiate against herself.

Massimo listed off the price of the apartment Elena had first tried to get a lease for. That seems like a fair rate,Massimo insisted.

Elena smiled. Alright,she agreed. It’s a deal.
