The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 158

Chapter 158

Today was the day! Elena couldn’t be more excitedshe was finally going to meet her mystery husband.

With Massimo’s enemies quiet and Elena’s workload as light as can be, Elena couldn’t be happier. In between performing small little tasks, she kept texting her husband. His response time today was near instantaneous- he must be as excited as she was for dinner tonight.

Luca took pity on Elena’s distracted state and let Elena off work early. The don figured this might happen,he said simply.

Elena showered and got dressed. She texted pictures of each accessory as she picked out her date outfit.

You might as well send a selfie at this rate, her husband replied. It’d be less detailed than the last dozen photos you sent.

Just for that, I’m not letting you pick out my earrings,Elena texted back. She sent a single message of a smiley face with its tongue sticking out immediately after.

Oh no,he said sarcastically. How will I cope with this loss?

Elena giggled. She couldn’t wait to talk to her husband in person, face to face.

You’ll just have to wait until we meet for the first time, she texted him.

Elena moved like a hurricane as she prepared for her date. Finally, with not a minute to spare, she was ready.

She wore a sleek blue top, a long pale brown skirt, and her favorite pair of comfortable black sneakers. She kept her makeup natural. Rather than go overboard with jewelry, she wore a simple small pair of gold earrings and a simple gold chain necklaceit seemed like a waste to not wear any jewelry when Massimo had prepared so much for her, but Elena was also still uncomfortable wearing anything too luxurious and fancy.

Elena ran down the stairs. She knew she had plenty of time to get to the restaurant, but she wanted to be early- she wasn’t going to let another stroke of luck stop her from missing her meeting. Elena was in such a hurry, she nearly didn’t notice Massimo passing back and forth right in front of the staircase.

Everything alright?she asked hesitantly. Massimo looked frazzled, if not outright distressed.

Don’t worry about it,he said neutrally. Just thinking through some things.

Elena shrugged. If you’re sure-

I’m sure,he said. He was in perfect control of his voiceit was as even and flat as it could be. It betrayed not a single hint of emotion.

Then I’ll be off,Elena said. Best of luck!

Without another word, Elena left. The slam of the door echoed in the entryway. It made the large house seem empty and dead.

Massimo had never felt more lost and alone. He didn’t know what to do.

He was supposed to meet Elena for dinner in a few short hours! But Elena wasn’t expecting to see Massimo– she was expecting her husband. If Elena learned they were one in the same

Massimo sighed. There was no denying it. Elena had been very clear what she would and would not tolerate.

Even if Elena could forgive him for this accidental lie, she would never marry a mafia man. She was quite firm on that point. And Elena was stubbornMassimo could never convince her.

If she learned the truth, she would leave. And Massimo’s life would be forever lonely again.

Massimo couldn’t let that happen. Who would he ask advice from for important tasks like shopping for relatives? Who could he share secrets of his past with as easily as if he were breathing?

Who would fill his estate with laughter and smiles? Who would cheer him up with a clever joke or a sincere word of encouragement?

Wait a minute,Massimo muttered. He stopped pacing as he came to a sudden and abrupt conclusion.

That was the sort of stuff couples did, wasn’t it? And here Massimo was, doing these things with Elenawho had no idea they were even married!

And it wasn’t just now. The trip to Florida, the cruise ship, and their efforts through his trialElena and Massimo had already been close.

Maybe there’s a different way to get everything I want,Massimo thought. His eyes shined with determination. A way that guarantees I won’t lose Elena but rather stay marriedand maybe even get closer.
