Chapter 249
Massimo clicked on the email. There was only one person who would bother to send him a message but wasn’t in his list of contacts Tyler. The fact the email name mentioned a cobra—the symbol of the Morello family just confirmed Massimo’s suspicions.
Weirdly, there wasn’t a single word in the email. There was just a video attachment. According to the video’s preview, it wasn’t more than a few minutes long.
Massimo clicked play.
Immediately, he could tell the quality wasn’t great. It was probably shot on someone’s phone, judging by how shaky the camera work was. But Massimo barely paid attention to that.
Because sitting in front of the camera was Elena. She was wearing an expensive wedding dress and sat on a simple bed. Her eyes were uncomfortably staring straight into the camera–straight at Massimo.
“I have a confession to make,” Elena said slowly. Her voice was clear but neutral–it was like she was reading from a cue card or repeating lines from a manual.
“I’m madly in love with someone,” Elena continued, suddenly smiling wide. “And it’s not who you think. This man is perfect, from his beautiful blonde hair to his perfect feet.”
Elena’s smile struck Massimo as delirious–maybe even maniac. The fact Elena’s speech picked up speed didn’t help.
“He’s Tyler Morello,” Elena confessed breathily, “and he’s the only one I want to be with. He’s the only man who makes me feel alive. And so long as we’re apart, I’ll never be whole.”
Massimo felt sick.
“I love you, Tyler,” Elena continued. I love you more than life itself. I just hope you feel the same–and that you’re ready to take me away from everything and everyone else.”
The video ended. Massimo wasn’t sure if he wanted to scream or vomit. This was a new low for Tyler.
There were two possibilities. Either the footage was fake or it was real. If it was fake, Tyler’s obsession with Elena had reached new levels.
If it was real, it was likely Tyler filmed this when he had kidnapped Elena months ago. Otherwise, Elena surely would’ve mentioned that this had happened. As it stood, Massimo figured Tyler got Elena high off some drugs and made her record this video.
The footage did have a lot of odd cuts to it, likely caused by Tyler feeding Elena her lines one at a time.
Suddenly, Massimo got a new notification. There was a reply to this very email.
“Be good,” the email read. “Or your wife might really leave you for a better man.”
Massimo flung the computer off his desk, letting it break against his office wall.
The next day, Elena couldn’t help but notice that Massimo was on edge. She figured he might finally relax, seeing as they caught the last hidden traitor. But Massimo was obviously annoyed–the slightest mistakes or inconveniences were met with hostility.
Massimo wouldn’t say what was wrong, but Elena had a guess. Only Tyler could rile up Massimo like this.
“Why don’t we do something fun,” Elena suggested. “I feel like we’re falling back into just reacting to the

schemes of our enemies. We should be proactive and take charge instead.”
“What do you suggest?” Massimo huffed.
“Why don’t we host a New Years party?” Elena suggested. “New Years‘ Eve parties are always big things, so we could take the opportunity to show everyone how strong the Mafia King and Queen are. I’ll be a nice reminder not to act against you–plus, it would just be fun.”
Massimo paused, clearly thinking over Elena’s words. Elena was already pleased that Massimo’s expression had gone from a frown into something more neutral.
“It’s not a bad idea,” Massimo agreed. “But we shouldn’t hold it here at the estate–not after everything that’s happened. If the symbol of the Ferraro’s stronghold gets ruined, we’ll make a fool out of ourselves.”
“Where do you suggest then?” Elena asked.
