Chapter 264

Tyler could be resourceful, but he was never this clever. Massimo had a feeling Tyler’s mystery red haired advisor was to blame.

Are you okay?Elena asked as she stitched up his arm.

We might need to cut off contact with most of the dons in Massachusetts,Massimo said simply. Our enemies are getting too fucking bold.

From the corner of his eye, Massimo could tell Elena was frowning. She didn’t say anything for a long moment. Instead, she kept her head down and focused on her work.

It was only when she was tying off the stitches that she decided to speak up.

Are you sure that’s a good idea?she asked, keeping her voice neutral.

Massimo wanted to yell. He knew Elena was opposed to violence and that she was all for trying to solve things by talking them out. But there’s a reason there’s so much fighting happening within the mafia.

Mafia dons only respect violence and shows of force. That’s the only power they bow to.

But Elena was still thinking so naively? She really thought the dons here weren’t a lost cause?

Did you notice how little damage happened to the D’Amico estate?Massimo asked. We had a full shoot out, yet no bullet hit the main house.

Massimo gestured with his uninjured arm to where their attackers had been positioned. And look at how fast all the bodies and evidence got cleaned up. A single sharpshooter couldn’t do that.

Then Massimo gestured back at the housespecifically, to the many windows. Getting a full squad of men into position without getting noticed by anyone on the estate would have been almost impossible. Which means

They knew,Elena finished. They were in on this attack.

Exactly,Massimo replied bitterly. Now that we have that settled, let’s get out of here.

Elena wasn’t sure how they were supposed to get home, but Massimo wasn’t worried. They walked to the nearest car shopa used car dealership. The cars on display looked cheap if not outright broken.

To her surprise, Massimo actually bought one. It drove okaybut only at ten miles an hour. There was no way they could take it on the interstate highway!

Massimo had them stop at a repair shop and bought a few parts. Then, right in the place’s parking lot, he started working on the car.

Are youfixing it?Elena asked.

Don’t sound so surprised,” Massimo chided. I told you I do some tinkering now and then in my basement.

This feels like it goes beyond tinkering though,Elena insisted.

Look, I’m not exactly a car guy, but I know enough to get one working in a pinch. Just give me a couple minutes.

Elena waited, switching to cleaning up her medical supplies and reorganizing her bag. Just as she finished up, so did Massimo.

And though Elena was doubtful, the car started up fine. It didn’t even make a sound as Massimo increased the

speed to twenty, then thirty, then forty miles per hour. It was quiet as they sped home,

Sorry for the delay,Massimo said as they were almost back at the estate. I know you don’t want to be late for your first real meeting with your mother.

Honestly, the extra time has helped settle my nerves a little,Elena confessed. I know I shouldn’t be nervous to see my mother, but here I amnervous.

No,Elena cut off firmly. I need answers.

Massimo didn’t ask another question after that. Elena was gratefulit seemed like he understood what she was feeling.

Elena got out of the car quickly. After all, she could see her mother starting to walk away from the Ferraro estate’s main door. Sloane looked annoyed.

Mom,Elena called out.

Sloane stopped in her tracks.

Apologies for the delay,Massimo said.

Sloane just glared at him.
