The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 338

The two split up. While there were other women laying in the bunk beds, they looked sick, not under-age.

Massimo checked under one of the bunks and found a thin, spindly woman. She could maybe be a teenager.

"Who are you?" Massimo asked softly. "How old are you?"

"Emily," she answered weakly. "I'm twenty years old. Did you come to save us?"

Massimo frowned. Luckily, he was saved from answering that question by a sudden shout from Elena.

"Massimo, stand over here," she cried. "I think I can maybe hear a baby's cry coming from the floor above."

"Is there a hole or broken tile you can see through?" he asked. "Anyways to access the floor above at all?"

Elena easily caught the meaning behind Massimo's question. "No," she replied sadly.

Massimo checked his watch. Almost ten minutes exactly. Outside in the hallway, he could hear distant footsteps.

He turned to Emily and took out his phone. "Stay still," he ordered before snapping a picture. Then he opened up his contacts and started texting Gavino.

Elena froze when three family men and their boss entered the room. They hadn't found any damning evidence yet!

"I'm Capo Sala," the newcomer said. "I'm sorry if my men were any trouble to you, my King and Queen—they're new from the D'Amico family, and we all know how their don values strength above reason."

He smoothly handed Massimo a thin stack of papers. "But here's all the paperwork for our contract, as well as proof that our latest human merchandise was cleared by the Ferraro family. Do you need anything else, or may we continue our daily operations?"

Massimo frowned. "Do you think these papers are going to fool me when I've seen the proof of what you're doing here?"

"I'm afraid I don't understand," Capo Sala said simply. "We only take girls who are of age, sir—"

"That doesn't mean you can steal from our own," Massimo spat back. He held up his phone and showed a picture of a woman's driver's license. "Emily Bonetti, she's been missing for months—and notably is the daughter of Capo Greg Bonetti."

"Luck is for cowards and fools," Massimo stated.

"What, you got someone to plant a Capo's daughter in there?" Elena asked with a scoff.

"No, don't be ridiculous. I got someone to make a fake driver's license with that woman's picture."

"What?"

Massimo rolled his eyes. "If we didn't seize that building today, all records would've been destroyed—and we'd never know for sure what was happening there. So I evened our odds."

Elena recalled that this wasn't the first time Massimo cheated the system. Their time at the ABC Casino proved that the don had no problem with cheating. He'd do whatever he wanted to get his way.

Elena was grateful he was on her side—Massimo could be a fearsome enemy.
