The second Massimo was in the driver's seat, he started tearing apart the vehicle. He exposed wires and fiddled with them with both desperation and precision. Within just a moment, he had the car's engine roaring too life.
A couple of men shout from outside. Elena recognized them as more of Tyler's mafia men. They seemed to have learned from the two's last escape attempt since these men swiftly pile into a car of their own.
Massimo swore. "Buckle up, this is going to get bad," he warned.
Elena's mind might've been slow and confused, but she could understand danger. She quickly followed Massimo's instructions just as her boss slammed on the gas pedal.
The benefits of driving in a bad neighborhood include the fact there aren't usually any other cars on the road—which Massimo was suddenly and extremely grateful for. After all, despite his best efforts, he was now in a car chase.
Luckily, Massimo was certain he knew the city streets much better than Tyler's goons. And now that he was in the driver's seat instead of Elena, he could use all of his skills.
Massimo made a tight turn as he checked how many cars were following them—three. He grinned. This would be too easy.
He quickly made a u-turn and headed to one of the busier streets. He knew a longer route that would make use of several sharp turns, which, predictably, lost him one of his pursuers. But strangely, only one car disappeared.
Maybe Tyler's men knew the area after all. But why would Tyler send such good men on a simply retrieval mission? Sure, Tyler wanted Elena badly, but he would know Elena couldn't put up much of a fight on her own.
Unless word got out that Massimo would also be with her. But who could've know such a secret?
Massimo arrived on the busier street. He focused on weaving in and out of different lanes—which pissed off other drives but easily helped put distance between him and their pursuers.
"We have another traitor in our ranks," Massimo thought aloud. "These men are too informed. The rat in our group likely is high up if they're able to give Tyler such good information on both this city and our whereabouts."
But the number of people who knew both Massimo and Elena were attending The Rose of the City's party was small. So who could've leaked that information?
