"On it, boss," Gavino said. He quickly strolled out of the room.

Which left just Elena and Massimo here. Massimo did his best to think of anything else. He let his mind stay focused on Tyler and his attack force.

Massimo suddenly thought of the trafficking ring. Was this the reason that operation was leaked, to provide cover to Tyler's stealth mission of grabbing Elena and trying to kill Massimo? Massimo had to admit that he hadn't been prepared for Tyler to make a move so quickly after Massimo busted up the Massachusetts dons' trafficking ring.

Tyler normally was more cautious—or rather more fueled by his emotions. His ego could never handle a loss well, so the snake of a don never tried to follow up a failure with a new plan.

Massimo didn't see this coming at all. Probably because this plan, like all of Tyler's best plans, was crafted by someone else—Tyler's new female advisor.

And this strategy had come dangerously close to succeeding.

Massimo needed to keep a better eye out against his enemies. He couldn't let himself come this close to losing.

Elena pretended to check her emails on her phone. She didn't want to even look at Massimo right now.

Luckily, she suddenly got a text on her civilian phone.

"Hey girl," Aria texted, "how did your masquerade date go?"

Elena glanced at the clock on her phone. She thought Aria was just being nosy and impatient, but apparently, they had been running from mafia goons for the whole night. It was already eight in the morning.

"It sucked," Elena replied.

"No way! What happened? You were so psyched for this!"

Elena's fingers flew across the keyboard before she even realized what she was typing. But as she looked at her message, she couldn't find it in her heart to censor herself. If anyone would understand what she was feeling, it would be Aria.

"My mystery husband revealed himself," Elena confessed. "It turns out he was Massimo."

"Ouch," Aria replied. "Say no more, I understand."
