Elena opened the door to a see a man she didn't recognize. He was dressed in light but stylish, colorful button-up and perfectly beige pants. It reminded Elena of the types of outfits she saw on display when Massimo took her on shopping trips to high-end stores.
"Hello," she said, "how can I help you?"
The man looked perplexed. Elena wasn't sure what to do when the man refused to talk.
Luckily, Noah peeked around the kitchen island to get a better look at the door. "Cameron!" he greeted warmly. "Come in."
Cameron's face brightened. He side-stepped around Elena to go to Noah and give him a quick hug.
"Elena, this is Cameron—he's Noah's older brother. He currently runs the Winslow's main toy company," Sloane explained.
"And this is Elena," Noah said, trying to finish the introduction. "She's Sloane's daughter—and the best doctor in all of New York." He winked at Elena.
Elena smiled. She could tell Noah was trying to keep the mood light, but it was also clear that the atmosphere had shifted. After all, neither Noah nor Sloane had expected Cameron to drop by.
And judging by how tightly Sloane held her cup of coffee, she was clearly frustrated. Her lack of greeting to Cameron—and his lack of greeting to her—didn't go unnoticed by Elena either.
Noah clapped his hands together, as if to dispel any negative feelings. "What a surprise, we didn't know you were coming over. Is everything okay at the company?"
Cameron laughed. "Of course, of course—the company is fine, little bro. Can't family drop by for a visit every now and then?"
Cameron helped himself to a cup of coffee, smile still in place. "I mean, come on, little bro—it's been ages since the folks, your brothers, or I have seen you! It's like you and your girl are avoiding the whole Winslow family!"
He laughed again, like he was telling a joke. Noah joined in a tad too late, and Sloane only gave a half-hearted smile.
"You know we just stay busy," Noah said with a forced laugh.
"That's why I stopped by!" Cameron said, waving his coffee cup grandly. "Tried to make it easier on you, little bro. Come on, let's all hang out for the day!"
"That does sound fun," Noah admitted, "but Sloane has work today."
