Elena opened the doors to Massimo’s office and was greeted by a grisly sight.
. It was eerily quiet as
Massimo’s desk was empty–all of the papers, computers, and knickknacks had been knocked to the floor. The extra chairs had also been overturned. Some paintings on the walls had fallen–their frames now broken.
But still, Massimo sat in his desk chair like it was just another work day.
Elena hurriedly made her way to Massimo. He his knuckles were bloody, but Elena was more concerned by the cut on his head–it looked small but it was bleeding profusely.
Elena cupped Massimo’s face to get a better look. It really was just a shallow cut.
Elena stared into Massimo’s eyes–she didn’t see any sign of a possible concussion. His gaze was extremely focused.
“Good evening to you to, Elena,” Massimo said.
Elena suddenly was aware of how close she was to a married man. She dropped her hands but didn’t step back. ” What happened?” she asked.
Massimo sighed. “Tyler must have realized my men were tailing him. That’s the only reason I can think of why he would attack me in the middle of the night.”
Elena gasped. Tyler was still in New York, and Massimo had been hot on his trail? This was the first time she was hearing of any of this!
But she needed to focus on one thing at a time. Elena gave Massimo another look over. “You don’t seem badly hurt, “Elena said.
Massimo grinned darkly. “Tyler made out worse than I did. But he did manage to get awa

“We should start looking for him,” Elena suggested. “What injuries did he have? Depending on how hurt he was, he can’t have gotten far-”
Massimo grabbed Elena’s hands. From this close, Elena could see the blossoming bruises underneath the cuts and blood.
“My people are on it, Elena,” he said seriously. “But you are a doctor–you don’t need to be involved in this manhunt.”
Elena knew this was the logical outcome, but she still felt uneasy. “I just want to help,” she said.
“I know,” Massimo replied. “So help take care of my injuries.”
Elena was surprised by Massimo’s request. This was the man who had walked on a mistreated leg. And he was asking her to take care of some minor cuts and bruises?
But, looking into Massimo’s eyes, Elena couldn’t bring up this odd behavior. She wanted to help Massimo.
