Chapter 58
Elena knew her friend was just trying to be helpful and kind. But Elena felt like Aria was flaunting her relationship. It just made Elena feel even more bitter about everything.
Elena lasted a week between feeling like an intruder at work and bitter, negative feelings made Elena want to explode.

But Elena knew this was her own problem to deal with. If she couldn’t fix her work or home environment, Elena figured she could try to fix her love life.
Despite all of Aria’s talk, Elena did not want to end up with Joshua. She just wanted to fix her relationship with her mystery husband. Or at least get him to respond to her messages.
Elena looked at her civilian phone. She had sent her husband so many texts without getting any replies.
Elena sighed.
Elena knocked on Aria’s bedroom door. It only took Aria a minute to open it. It was clear from her outfit and her half finished makeup that Aria was getting ready for a date.
“Can I bother you for a minute?” Elena asked.
“Of course!” Aria ushered Elena to her bed. “What’s up?”
Elena gingerly sat down. “How do you… how are you so good at dating?”
“Can you be more specific?” Aria asked, clearly lost.
“I mean, you charmed someone as closed off as Massimo,” Elena explained, jealously swirling in her heart, “and I can’t even get my husband to text me back.”
Aria’s face fell. “He still hasn’t texted you back? It’s been like, over a month.”
Elena could feel her eyes watering. Aria gave her a hug.
“You poor thing. That asshole ghosting you isn’t your fault,” Aria comforted.
“Can’t I do anything?” Elena protested. She wanted to just get one reply back–get s
ire, at the very least.
“Listen, some men just want different things. You shouldn’t try to change yourself and be something you’re not.”
Aria quickly checked her phone. “I’m so sorry, but I do have to leave now–I’ve got a date with Massimo. We’ll talk more later, yeah?”
Elena numbly nodded her head.
Back in her room, Elena stared at her message history with her husband. What was she doing wrong?
Aria had said Elena didn’t need to do anything differently, but Aria had enchanted every man she met. Even someone like Massimo. Elena wanted that kind of power.
Just for a moment. Just long enough to make her husband reply to her.
So what would Aria do in Elena’s position?
Desperate, Elena took off her clothes. She stood in front of her full length mirror–a gift Aria got from Massimo that she had given to Elena–and looked herself over.

Elena knew she didn’t compare to Aria’s beauty. Her curves weren’t as filled out and her chest was much smaller, But her skin was surely not too dissimilar–almost perfect and without any noticeable blemishes.
Elena pretended she had Aria’s confidence. She struck a seductive pos picture with her phone’s camera.
“I miss you.” She texted, along with the picture. “Do you miss me?”

Elena struck a new pose and took a full length picture, doing her best to angle the mirror in the background. She needed to show off everything–or at least as much as she was willing to show. “I want to see you. Don’t you want

Elena went to her bed. She sat down and pulled her underwear off to expose her lower region. She inched her free hand towards it.
Elena snapped another picture and sent it.
“Let’s meet up in person. I need to see you.”
Elena’s borrowed confidence wavered as she still received no replies. Soon, that confidence was completely gone. Hadn’t he accused her of being sexually loose before? Hadn’t that made her husband only want to divorce her? Elena realized with dread she might’ve completely ruined her relationship. There was no way her husband would ever respond now.
Elena scrambled to try to delete the messages, but she wasn’t very tech savvy. She knew she had to hurry though— otherwise her husband might read the messages before she deleted them.
“Come on,” Elena muttered, trying her best to figure out her phone’s settings. “How do I unsend them?”
As Elena fiddled with her phone, it began to ring. Unfortunately, Elena hit the answer button before she had seen the caller ID.
“Hello?” Elena greeted hesitantly.
