As soon as the servant left, Elena crept back to the office door. She had learned to eavesdrop on her father’s meetings when she was younger–it made it easier to predict what mood he would be in after it ended.

“You look well, Don Massimo…” Elena could picture the grin Tyler was sporting. She rolled her eyes on impulse.

It took great restraint from Massimo to not immediately start a fight with Tyler. His face was just so punchable when he was sporting that stupid grin.

“What do you want, Tyler,” Massimo grit out.

“The same thing as you!” he replied cheekily.

“I doubt it.”

“Come on now,” Tyler continued. “You’re acting like I came here as an enemy. Please know, Don of All Dons, that the last thing I want is an all out war with you.”

“I’ve just been doing standard business deals,” Tyler defended. “Well, that and networking. I’ve invited a few mafia heads to a little cruise getaway–don’t tell me you’re jealous I didn’t invite yo

Tyler snapped his fingers. “Though I suppose I could remedy that. And won’t that be the perfect solution to our little problem?”

“Speak plainly,” Massimo said coldly. “And with minimal theatrics,”

Tyler gingerly took a seat. He put his cane over his lap and then leaned in to face Massimo head on.

“I’m saying, if you go on the cruise, then we can ask all the mafia leaders to impartially decide on our current disagreements,” Tyler explained. “What do you say?”

Massimo wasn’t a fool. He knew this was a trap. But, unfortunately, Massimo was smart enough to know he was screwed either way.

Tyler definitely planned for this–and, knowing Tyler, he definitely lied to the other mafia leaders. He probably already told them that Massimo had agreed to let them decide this matter.
