The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 72

Chapter 72

United, Massimo and Elena worked quickly to be ready by Tyler’s cruise. Being given less than a week’s notice was difficult. Luckily, Massimo had plenty of subordinates that they could direct.

Elena couldn’t stop thinking about the looming deadline though. Tyler must’ve known how disrespectful it was to invite the Don of All Dons to a big event last minute. But more than the lack of manners, Elena suspected Tyler had done this to prevent Massimo from figuring out his ultimate scheme.

Do you have any idea what he might have told the other dons?Elena asked.

But Massimo could only shake his head. For all we know, he could have told the dons nothingperhaps he wants me to look incompetent, turning an innocent gettogether into a serious meeting.

Massimo’s secondincommand looked similarly grim. If we had more time, we could spare the men to look into that more, but as it stands, your preparations are already on a tight timeline.

Elena nodded sympathetically. She knew Luca would be shouldering a lot of responsibility in defending Massimo’s territory while he was on the cruise. And unlike their trip to Las Vegas, there had been no months of advance notice.

Let’s focus on what we can do,Massimo reminded them. His tone was harsh, but Elena knew he was only frustrated at Tylernot herself or Luca.

Good idea,Elena replied.

Though they had no idea what Tyler was planning, Elena was grateful they could still make plenty of their own plans. Elena did her best to memorize all the information Massimo’s men had managed to find in addition to her own research on the cruise ship. If any emergencies happened, she wanted to be ready.

Massimo did listen to her outfit suggestion. It was much easier to hide protective gear underneath his usual rich, dark colors than any of the lighter fabrics more fitting for a cruise. It would make him stand out in a crowd, but shouldn’t someone as important as Massimo be instantly recognizable?

Still Elena felt nervous. She knew Massimo wasn’t feeling his usual level of confidence either. His insistence on fully burying himself in his work was proof enough of that.

Elena tried to strike a balance. She knew they had little time, but Massimo couldn’t arrive at the cruise burnt out

either.

So she insisted that Massimo take breaksto eat, sleep, and check in on his wife. Her stubbornness would win out against his more often than not. It was strange that he was trying to accommodate her requests.

Elena reminded herself that though she was attending this event’as Massimo’s guest, she was not replacing Aria. She did her best to subtly remind Massimo that she remembered this by bringing up Aria’s recovery.

But no matter how great Elena tried, she couldn’t make time come to a complete halt. So the day of the cruise arrived.

By the time Elena and Massimo arrived, there was already a line of passengers. Elena instantly recognized several faces of hardened criminalsthey were in the right place.

It wasn’t hard to spot Tyler. He was dressed with his usual gaudy cane, waiting by the entrance to the ship. He seemed to be personally greeting everyone.

While he was wearing a lighter, more boatappropriate outfit instead of his usual suit, Tyler was anything but casual. And though he donned a smile as Elena and Massimo waited in line, that expression immediately soured
