Chapter 88

Before Elena could ask how he could ever do that, Tyler got up and left, locking the door behind him.
Massimo and his men were hard at work trying to find Aria and Elena. They had divided up tasks and were working around the clock, but Massimo still felt everyone was moving too slow.
It wasn’t until this morning that Luca had managed to secure the list of passengers on the cruise ship–Massimo could thank Tyler for that. Mafia men tended to put as few things on official records as possible, and Tyler was no exception. He had even bribed some cruise employees to make a fully fake account and use that one instead.
All things considered, it was probably a miracle Luca found the genuine, real passenger list. But did it need to take Massimo’s underlings a full three hours to go through every name and identify likely suspects? Surely they could’ve worked faster.
Massimo knew he didn’t have room to complain. His own leads of interrogating other dock workers had led to zero clues. But he still felt anxious.
With Luca’s help, Massimo went through the short list of suspects and got some employees to identify the men who had left with their “drunk” wives. The two “husbands” were identified as Eric Martin and Kyle Dioli–two families with decent ties to the Morellos.
And to make matters worse, Kyle was the man had tried to flirt with Elena on the first night of the cruise. Had he done that only to make onlookers less suspicious if he carried the woman away unconscious?
Massimo’s blood boiled.
“Find these two idiots. Now,” Massimo ordered Luca.
Luckily, Eric and Kyle were still in New York. Now that they had names, Luca could track down their financial records and find what hotel they were staying at. After talking to the receptionist, they learned that the two were borrowing the hotel’s meager “business lounge.”
Massimo didn’t wait for further explanations. Though he didn’t have a hotel key, breaking the lock allowed him to open the door just fine. The two low–ranking mafia men were, understandably, taken by surprise.
Massimo grabbed Kyle by the collar. “You two took two women off the cruise ship a few days ago. Tell me everything–now.”
Eric piped up first. “What are you talking about? We didn’t—”
Massimo pushed Kyle up against the wall. With the wall’s support, he only needed to hold Kyle’s collar with one hand. That left one hand free to bend Kyle’s wrist backward.
Kyle yelled as his bones snapped. Eric headed for the door, but Luca had caught up with Massimo and prevented any escape. As Luca drew his gun, Eric skidded to a stop.
Tears were forming at Kyle’s eyes. Massimo got close to his face, his nostrils flaring.
“Each second you waste of my time,” Massimo stated, “is another bone I’m going to break. Understood?”
“We took the girls,” Kyle confessed. “Elena and your wife-”
“Elena is my doctor,” Massimo growled. “You don’t get to use her name.” He applied pressure on the already
broken wrist.
Kyle bit back a howl of pain. “We took the doctor and your wife to some apartment complex–the address is in

Eric’s phone. That’s all we were asked to do, and we haven’t seen them since,”
“Luca,” Massimo called.
Massimo didn’t bother to look behind him and see how Luca got the phone from Eric. It was unimportant. All that mattered was finding his missing women.
