Audrey stopped dead in her tracks. She looked back over her shoulder, a caustic smile on her face. "Aren't you afraid I might accidentally drop her?"
"You won't," Joaquin said, his brow deeply furrowed. "I know you're not that kind of person."
"Don't be so sure." Audrey's smile vanished into a vicious sneer. "Because I guarantee you, even if I'm extremely careful, your precious Rainey will make sure she 'slips' and falls off my back. Have you two already scripted this out?"
She glared at him. "Let me guess the climax. She falls, her delicate body can't handle the trauma since she just got out of the ER, and she starts dying. And it's all my fault! Because if I hadn't dropped her, she'd be fine. Which means I have to be rushed into emergency surgery to save her life, and I can't refuse. Is that the plan?"
"Audrey!" Joaquin roared, his eyes bloodshot, veins popping in his neck. "Is that really what you think of us? She needs your marrow, yes, but she would never stoop to something so vile!"
Audrey didn't flinch against his explosive rage. "Really? Booking my surgery without my consent isn't vile?"
She let out a dry, humorless laugh. "I'm not carrying her. In fact, I'm not shooting these scenes at all. I'll go tell Director Chandler to recast my part and reshoot my footage. I'm done!"
With that, she turned and marched toward the set. She had a few personal items to grab. She would gladly refund every cent of her paycheck if it meant she didn't have to be a pawn in their twisted games anymore.
"Don't you dare!" Joaquin snarled at her retreating back. "Aren't you afraid I'll pull my funding, shelve this entire movie, and bury it?"
Audrey didn't even break her stride. "Did you forget? Before I took this role, I was just a production assistant. Why the hell would a PA care if a movie gets shelved?"
