Just as Joaquin finished speaking, his phone rang again.
It was Rainey’s nurse. The panic in her voice was palpable. "Mr. Judd, Rainey woke up, but when she didn't see you, she fainted again. The doctor says you need to get back here right away..."
Joaquin’s brow furrowed. "Understood."
Putting his phone away, he cast a cold glance at Audrey. "I'll have Chase arrange a driver to take you home. If your stomach is acting up, go back and rest. Don't loiter at the hospital entrance chatting with irrelevant people."
Then, as if remembering something, he paused and threw one last warning over his shoulder. "And don't forget—Mr. Foster is the one backing Harold."
Audrey frowned at the mention of the previous night’s ordeal. "That man was spouting nonsense, and you actually believe him?"
Joaquin shot a derisive smirk at Miles. "Why don't you ask him yourself whether it's nonsense or not?"
With that, he turned on his heel and strode back into the hospital.
"It seems Rainey is still the priority in Mr. Judd's heart," Miles remarked softly, noticing how Audrey was staring blankly at the spot where Joaquin had disappeared.
Audrey snapped back to reality, a bitter smile touching her lips. "Yeah. To him, nothing is more important than her."
Perhaps he did have a little bit of affection for Audrey. After all, the care and gentleness he had shown her over the past year hadn't been entirely fake. But when it came down to it, the most important place in his heart would always belong to Rainey...
Pushing the heavy emotions down, she forced a smile and looked up at Miles. "Mr. Foster, I have a personal question to ask you..."
Miles paused his texting. He slipped his phone into his pocket and offered an easy smile. "Shoot."
"Last night..."
She hesitated, then recounted her encounter with the repulsive investor, Harold Hunter. Finally, she raised an eyebrow. "He claimed you were his backer, and he also said..."
Miles chuckled, seamlessly finishing her sentence. "That he gifted me a woman, I accepted her, and now she's pregnant?"
Audrey blinked in surprise, nodding quickly. "Right."
