The Moment I Realized I Can't Lose You novel Chapter 42

After hanging up on Fiona, Audrey fully expected her phone to immediately start ringing again. Surprisingly, it remained dead silent. That wasn't Fiona's style at all.

Frowning with suspicion, Audrey eventually arrived back at Judd Manor. The moment she pushed the front door open, she saw Fiona sitting right in the middle of her living room.

The older woman was leaning back luxuriously against the cushions, her designer heels propped up on the very coffee table Audrey had spent weeks picking out. She was elegantly sipping a cup of freshly brewed coffee, prepared by the housekeeper.

Hearing the door, Fiona shot a frigid, evaluating glare over the rim of her cup.

Because Audrey had left in such a rush that morning, she was only wearing a simple pair of jeans and a white T-shirt. Her face was completely bare of makeup, making her look undeniably pale and exhausted.

Fiona let out a derisive scoff. "The maid said you were already gone when she got here at seven. Where did you sneak off to this early? Meeting up with some wild man?"

Meeting her provocative glare, Audrey just stared back coldly. "I was actually wondering about this on my way back. Knowing your temper, I figured you'd call back immediately screaming after I hung up on you. But you didn't. Turns out, you decided to just break into my house and wait."

As she spoke, she turned her gaze to the cowering maid standing nearby. "Why didn't anyone call to tell me we had a guest?"

The maid kept her head bowed, too terrified to speak.

"I told her not to," Fiona sneered, her eyes gleaming with contempt. "If she had told you, would you have even had the guts to show your face?"

Audrey stepped fully into the foyer. "This is my house. Why wouldn't I have the guts to come back to it?"

"Your house?" Fiona’s eyes swept over the living room’s decor with blatant disgust. "Funny, I seem to remember this place being bought as the marital home for my son and Rainey..."

At the mention of Rainey’s name, Fiona’s gaze sharpened into a glare. "Do you want to know why I came looking for you today?"

Audrey barely looked at her. "Not really."

Fiona choked on her next breath. This woman was completely out of control, daring to talk back to her like this! She needed to be thrown out of the Judd family as soon as possible!
