Audrey's fingernails dug painfully into her palms. She knew exactly what he was doing. This was pure retaliation!
Nora's role was the live-in caregiver for the 'Sickly Beauty,' Vivienne Snow. The entire purpose of the caregiver was to highlight Vivienne's twisted, deteriorating mental state. Practically every scene they shared involved Vivienne emotionally and physically abusing the poor girl.
Joaquin must have read the script. He knew exactly what the role demanded, and he was deliberately feeding her to the wolves.
Audrey felt a wave of sheer bitterness. For a year, she had played the perfect wife. She had poured her heart into caring for him, tending to his every need. Even if he didn't love her, didn't they at least have the baseline respect of two people who lived together?
But simply because she had pushed back against Rainey for two seconds, he was going to publicly humiliate and torture her like this?
"No." After a heavy silence, Nora found her courage. "Audrey cannot play my role!"
It was obvious there was bad blood between Audrey and Rainey. If Audrey took the part, Rainey would absolutely use the cameras as an excuse to make Audrey's life a living hell. Nora gritted her teeth. "I am the head writer! I cast these roles, and I have the final say! I refuse to let her play that part!"
Joaquin didn't even look at her. He simply turned his cool gaze to Julian. "Did you forget to inform your writer who is funding this project?"
Julian turned pale, desperately yanking on Nora's arm. "Stop talking!"
"I won't let Audrey take that role!" Nora yelled, glaring defiantly at Julian. "You know what that character goes through—"
Julian hissed through his teeth. "He's the lead executive producer! He's putting up all the capital! Without him, there is no movie! Are you really going to let hundreds of people lose their jobs and watch this entire production collapse over this?"
