Snapping out of her daze, Audrey shoved down the treacherous flutter in her chest and violently ripped her hand away. To add insult to injury, she openly wiped her palm against his shirt as if she had touched something filthy.
"You don't even compare to him," she said, her voice dripping with ice as she met his furious stare. "Maybe you should spend a little less time playing house with Rainey and a little more time at the gym."
Joaquin's face contorted with outrage. He had practically torn the city apart looking for her after seeing her medical report, completely consumed by panic, only to find her half-naked, groping some club rat, and minutes away from kissing him. And now she had the audacity to mock him?
The silence in the car grew hostile.
A blast of cold air from the AC vent hit Audrey, and she instinctively wrapped her arms around herself. She was barely wearing anything. The adrenaline from the argument was fading, leaving her freezing.
Joaquin caught her shivering. "Dress like that and you deserve to freeze," he muttered coldly.
Despite his harsh words, he instantly shrugged off his tailored suit jacket and tossed it onto her lap. "Put it on."
Audrey didn't argue. She slipped the heavy jacket over her shoulders, instantly enveloped in his lingering warmth. She was pregnant; the last thing she needed was to catch another fever.
Watching the oversized blazer swallow her delicate frame and cover her exposed skin, Joaquin felt a fraction of his anger subside. He rolled down the privacy partition and looked at the driver. "St. Jude's Medical Center. Now."
The driver scrambled to start the engine.
Audrey's head snapped up, her entire body tensing. "Why are we going to the hospital?"
