Reading the sheer terror and devastation on her face, Joaquin frowned, his tone icy. "I already have the specialists waiting. It won't take long."
Audrey's heart shattered into a million irreversible pieces. She turned her head, refusing to look at his beautiful, hypocritical face. "You really would do absolutely anything to make sure Rainey gets my bone marrow, wouldn't you?"
He was willing to destroy his own flesh and blood without a second thought.
"I'm doing this for your health just as much as hers," he snapped, clearly offended. "Whether you decide to donate or not, I need to know you are physically okay."
The sheer audacity of his lie made Audrey laugh out loud. "If you gave a damn about my health, you wouldn't be dragging me into a hospital at two in the morning."
Joaquin's jaw clenched. Before he could fire back, his phone lit up.
It was Rainey's custom ringtone.
He answered it immediately.
"Joaquin..." Rainey whimpered, her voice thick with tears. "I just had a horrible nightmare. I woke up crying. I dreamed that Audrey refused to give me her bone marrow. I was on my knees begging her, but she just watched me die. The pain in my chest feels so real..."
She choked out a sob. "Joaquin, what if she really refuses? I've searched for so long, and she's my only match. If she won't save me, I'm going to die."
Joaquin pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a heavy sigh. "Stop overthinking. She's going to donate."
