The Moment I Realized I Can't Lose You novel Chapter 74

Overwhelmed that things had actually gone her way, tears of gratitude spilled down Audrey's cheeks. "I know. I'm already sorting out the divorce. It will be finalized soon."

Wyatt watched her quietly. She was still wearing the tiny tube top and hot pants from their dance earlier. But all the fiery, electric energy she'd commanded on stage was gone. Right now, she was just a vulnerable, terrified mother trapped in a corner. In one night, he had seen two completely different sides of this woman.

After letting her cry it out for a minute, he walked over to a mini-fridge and tossed her an ice pack. "Put this on. If your husband sees your eyes red and puffy, he's going to think I bullied you and probably try to shove me into a wall."

Audrey bit her lip, pressing the ice against her eyes. "Thank you, Dr. Westbrook."

Propping his chin on his hand, Wyatt gave her a roguish grin. "If you really want to thank me, come back and dance with me once all this is over."

He rubbed his jaw playfully. "It's been a long time since I've met a woman with such killer moves. I wasn't finished."

A faint blush dusted Audrey’s cheeks. "Okay."

"But we'll wait until my divorce is final. I'd rather not have our night ruined again." Chuckling, he handed her a stack of requisition forms. "You still need to go through the motions for the exams. But don't worry. I'll make sure the numbers check out."

Audrey nodded, taking the paperwork. Once she was sure her eyes didn't look like she'd been sobbing, she stepped out of the office.

"There are things here that require my attention, I couldn't just leave her alone."

The moment she stepped into the hallway, Joaquin's deep, magnetic voice echoed in the air.

"Aren't your parents already on their way to sit with you? Stop crying. I can't be by your side every single second of the day."
