The Moment I Realized I Can't Lose You novel Chapter 85

"Joaquin, if you take me away like this, will Audrey be angry?" Sitting in the passenger seat of Joaquin's luxury car, Rainey leaned against his arm and whispered softly, "She already misunderstands my intentions. If I end up ruining your marriage..."

A tear slipped down her cheek. "That would hurt me more than taking a hundred slaps."

The air in the car was stifling. Joaquin frowned. "She won't."

If Audrey wanted to be an actress, she had to endure the same grievances and frustrations that every other actor faced.

Still... He glanced at Rainey, his brow furrowing slightly. "Don't do that again. People won't understand your dedication to the craft. They'll just think you're bullying them on purpose."

If he hadn't watched the morning footage and seen how patiently Rainey treated Audrey, the scene he had just walked into—and the things Audrey had said—would have been enough to make him doubt her too.

Rainey stiffened briefly before lowering her eyes and burying her face in his arm, staying quiet.

"Sir." When the car pulled up to St. Jude's Medical Center, Chase tapped on the window and handed him a tube of medical ointment.

Looking at the medicine, Joaquin's mind inexplicably flashed to the angry red swelling and bleeding scratch on Audrey's face. His voice turned heavy. "Get another tube and send it to my wife on set."

After a brief pause, he added, "And go back to the villa to grab a decent set of clothes for her."

Walking around a bustling set dressed in nothing but a piece of lingerie—what was she thinking?

"Joaquin," Rainey said softly after Chase walked away, clinging to his arm. "My dad is throwing a homecoming party for me at the villa tonight to officially announce my return..."

She paused. "After we get my face checked out, can you take me to one of Judd Group's exclusive salons? I need to get my hair and makeup done."

She lowered her head, acting self-conscious. "I know I look awful right now, but I still want to look pretty in front of everyone..."

Seeing her pale, fragile face, Joaquin patted her back gently. "Of course."
