Rainey's face flushed violently, then went completely pale. "I..."
"Rainey," Joaquin cut in, his brow furrowed. "I know you've been suffering since you came back. I know you feel insecure. But Audrey is my wife, and she is your family. You shouldn't be scheming against her. I'll have Chase handle your affairs for a while. Don't contact me. Take some time to cool off."
Without giving her another glance, he turned and hurried out the door after Audrey.
Rainey stood frozen, her hand still hovering awkwardly in the air. Staring at his retreating back, the sheer venom in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Audrey was the one who was supposed to be humiliated and abandoned tonight! Why did it turn out like this?
"Did Mr. Judd just leave? Then what are we..."
"Well, looks like the legal wife still holds more weight to him..."
"Who cares about childhood sweethearts? Audrey has actually been living with him as his wife for a year. Legally, they're family!"
"Don't forget, Rainey was the one who ran out on the wedding a year ago..."
The whispers in the villa grew louder. The very people who had been mocking Audrey just moments before were now staring at Rainey with undisguised disdain.
Some guests didn't even bother whispering; they just started grabbing their coats. "Joaquin is gone. What are we still doing here?"
Once one person made an excuse to leave, the rest of the room followed suit.
